80 Convertible
The Viking 48SC is a 49-foot sport coupe fishing yacht that was launched by the New Jersey-based boat building firm in 2021. Sharing the same hull as the popular 48 Convertible and 48 Open, this yacht differs from its sibling vessels due to its eye-catching Great Lakes-style hard-top deckhouse and an altered layout. As with Viking’s other sportfishing yachts, the 48SC can be fitted with a custom-made Palm Beach tuna tower to turn it into the 44ST, a boat that is otherwise identical to the 48SC.
The 124-square foot aft cockpit on this model is a teak-lined space that has been precision engineered to maximize the tournament fishing experience. The cockpit comes with a transom door with a lift gate, a transom fish box, bait coolers, recessed storage units, a livewell, fresh and saltwater hoses, flush rod holders and a floor plate for the installation of a fighting chair or a set of rocket launchers. The cockpit also features a pair of mezzanine sofas in beige leather and a drinks cooler for those moments when even the most energetic fisherman must take a time-out.
The beautiful command deck on the Viking 48SC is a superb place to relax with two L-shaped leather side sofas surrounding matching teak-topped cocktail tables. There is also room in here for three teak-and-leather adjustable helm seats, facing a dashboard installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics. The helm features a glossy teak steering-pod, power-assisted hydraulic steering, touch-screen instrumentation panels from Garmin and an optional joystick. With its central position and superb visibility out of a wrap-around windshield, this is the ideal set-up for chasing larger pelagic fish, or just enjoying weekend island-hopping.
Access to the lower deck living space is through a tinted companionway door, which leads you down into a full-beam salon with teak cabinetry, leather furnishings and timber flooring. There is a dining lounge to starboard with an L-shaped dining sofa and an angled breakfast table, while to port you will find a V-shaped galley with Cambria worktops, a combination oven, under-counter refrigeration, a four-zone electric hob, a large sink and plenty of storage space. The Viking 48SC and the 48ST both come with two staterooms, one a bunk twin berth to starboard and another a double room to the bow with maple-lined closets and a queen-sized island bed. The main head on this level features a fiberglass shower cubicle, marble-effect counters and a vanity mirror.
The Viking 48SC comes equipped with a pair of MAN V8 diesel engines with a maximum horsepower of 1300MHP for top speeds of 36 knots and cruising speeds of 30 knots. This yacht can also be fitted out with a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer for reduced roll in choppy waters, though the vessel’s sporty hull provides plenty of natural balance thanks to a sleek sheer line and a raked stem. A fuel capacity of 1,215 gallons, meanwhile, makes this is a great option for long-range fishing expeditions out to tuna-rich waters.
