The Viking 57C is a 57-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with an open flybridge that was launched by the New Jersey-based boat building firm in 2009. This model was a relaunch of the iconic 57C, a Viking flagship that was originally released back in 1989 and which was widely considered to usher in the modern era of convertible fishing yachts. This yacht, however, is anything but vintage, and impresses with superb handling, a sleek profile, luxuriously appointed interiors, and, of course, tournament-worthy fishing credentials. Though no longer produced at the Viking shipyard in New Gretna, NJ, the 57C remains one of the most sought-after models in its class on both the used and charter markets.
This is a yacht that can be fitted with a custom Palm Beach tuna tower for that turnkey-ready fish-chasing experience, though should you opt against a tower then there is plenty of opportunity for raised piloting from the flybridge. The bridge is lined with non-slip fiberglass, a hard top with a radar station, an optional Costa Clear enclosure and protective covers over the instrumentation for all-weather piloting. There is a walk-around helm station with a dashboard fitted by Viking subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics featuring Furuno electronics, Side Power bow thruster controls, an ICOM VHF radio, an optional ZF joystick and a teak helm pod with a Teleflex Sea-star hydraulic steering wheel. Also to be found up here is a snug forward seating area with a forward-facing loveseat and a pair of side chaise-longues.
One level down and you will find a teak or fiberglass-lined 157-square foot aft-cockpit built for competitive fishing. The cockpit features essentials such as a transom door with lift gate (a swim ladder is optional), a live-well, Rupp outriggers, chunky grabrails, flush rod holders, a refrigerated fish box, an Eskimo ice-chipper, tackle storage and a floor plate for the fighting chair or rocket launcher of your choice. A mezzanine level with a sofa, a drinks chiller and speakers linked to the home entertainment system provides a great place to relax while waiting for a bite.
A Manhattan-loft layout with plush surrounds awaits upon entry into the main deck salon, where you will find a port-side L-shaped leather sofa hugging a custom coffee table, with curved teak cabinetry and space for an HD TV sitting to starboard. A U-shaped dining sofa with a Hi-Lo table sits amidship, directly opposite a walk-in galley with Gialitta granite countertops, Sub-Zero fridge-freezer units, a combination oven, a Kenyon four-zone hob and a stainless-steel sink.
Below deck you can expect to find three en-suite staterooms for up to 7 overnight guests across a starboard bunk-berth, a master double with a folding bunk to the bow and a port-side owner’s stateroom. This plush bedroom features a queen-sized island bed, beside cabinets, maple-lined hanging closets and a bathroom with a fiberglass shower cubicle and satin-nickel fixtures.
Lucky owners of a Viking 57C can expect full-throttle top speeds in excess of 40 knots thanks to a pair of MAN V12 1550CRM diesel engines, with cruising speeds of around 35 knots. At the slower pace of around 16 knots, meanwhile, this yacht has an ocean-going range over 680 nautical miles due to a fuel tank holding 5,720 liters of diesel.
