The Viking 65EB is a 65-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with an enclosed bridge that was produced by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts between 2000 and 2005. This vintage model remains immensely popular on the used and charter markets thanks to its serious fishing credentials, high-performance handling, all-weather piloting and luxuriously-appointed interior spaces.
The Viking 65EB can be fitted with a bespoke tuna tower provided by Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers to turn this into a turnkey-ready tournament fishing machine. Though even without a tower this yacht offers superb, raised piloting from within the spacious enclosed bridge. The helm station sits centrally and is afforded superb visibility through gin-clear wrap-around windshield windows, while comfortable seating is provided in the form of a single leather helm chair and a pair of forward-facing sofas. The dashboard features instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics including a Furuno Navnet system, Simrad auto-pilot, Bennett trim-tab controls, Side Power bow thruster controls, an Icom VHF and power steering. This flybridge, however, is about much more than navigation, as it is large enough to host an L-shaped leather sofa, a triangular teak-lined and burl-accented coffee table, plenty of cabinetry and an outdoor aft-overhang with a loveseat and a wet-bar console.
A 179-square foot, teak-lined aft-cockpit one level down will impress even the most ambitious tournament fishermen thanks to its wealth of fishing essentials. The cockpit comes with a transom door with a lift gate, an in-sole livewell, a pair of Glendinning cable masters, a fish box, tackle storage, triple outriggers, flush rod holders, an Eskimo ice-chipper, a floor plate for a fighting chair, fresh and raw-water hoses and plenty of chunky grab rails to help keep you upright. There is also a mezzanine level out here with a three-seater leather sofa, a drinks chiller and integral speakers linked to an indoor entertainment system.
The internal salon on the Viking 65EB impresses with polished teak surfaces, cherry Amtico floors, leather furnishings and upholstered wall panels for an atmosphere that harks back to the golden age of sailing. There is an eight-seater U-shaped sofa to port surrounding a coffee table, while to starboard there is room for an HD TV sitting above plenty of cabinetry. Moving further inside you will discover a U-shaped dining sofa with a Hi-Lo table and a walk-in galley with granite worktops, a three-zone hob, a Sharp combination oven, a stainless-steel sink and under-counter Sub-Zero fridge and freezer units.
Three en-suite staterooms on the lower deck can host up to 6 overnight guests, with a bunk berth to starboard, a double room towards the bow and an owner’s stateroom to port. Bedrooms feature cedar-lined closets, teak joinery, plush carpeting and bathrooms with bronze faucets, Corian counters and fiberglass shower stalls. The owner’s room also features a lounge retreat with a loveseat, though this space can also be turned into a private crew quarters.
The Viking 65EB boasts a pair of MTU 16V M91 diesel engines for top speeds of 39 knots and comfortable cruising speeds in excess of 30 knots. A tank holding 2000 gallons of fuel, meanwhile, will take you far and wide in search of tuna-rich waters with plenty left in reserve.
