The Viking 44C is a 45-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was launched by the New Jersey-based boat building firm in 2018. This vessel combines the tournament-ready practicality and speed that serious fishermen demand with the sort of luxury finish families will love and has garnered rave reviews since it was released to the public.
The hard-top flybridge on this yacht is the perfect place to pilot your vessel and spot your prey as it benefits from a lofty elevation and an open aspect on all sides for superb visibility. There are two Release Marine helm chairs in teak and leather, as well as a pair of fitted chaise-lounges on either side of the bridge so that captains do not have to embark on their intrepid voyages alone. The walk-around helm station is positioned centrally and benefits from a glazed teak dashboard, power-steering, thruster controls, instrumentation fitted by Atlantic Marine Electronics and navigational feedback provided by Garmin. All electronics onboard any new Viking Yacht are installed by their subsidiary, AME.
Ladder access with chunky stainless-steel footrests leads you directly back to the aft-cockpit, where a raised teak platform at the front provides rest room in the form of a three-seater leather sofa with cup-holders and hidden storage. In total the aft-cockpit measures 119 square feet of easily washed, practical space, and hosts amenities such as a transom door and lift-gate, tackle storage, a fish box and live well, fresh and saltwater pipes, rod holders and an integral floor plate that can be used to install a fighting chair or rocket launcher of your choice. Stepping inside you will find a teak-lined, climate-controlled salon with wrap-around windows that is redolent of a sports cruiser in both style and size. An L-shaped sofa to starboard comes with a matching coffee table, while a dining sofa to port hugs a large dining table. The galley is hosted on a lower mezzanine level and comes with a Corian-topped serving bar with direct access to the salon. While compact in size, the galley benefits from additional head clearance, a two-zone hob, a combination microwave, Corian worktops and a fridge-freezer.
At over 16 feet wide, the Viking 44C has the largest beam in its class, and this allows for a lower deck of unrivalled proportions with a sense of spaciousness usually only found on much larger yachts. An amidship master stateroom accommodates a queen-sized island bed, maple-lined cabinetry, a hanging closet and even an en suite bathroom with Amtico flooring and a shower cubicle. Nestled towards the bow, meanwhile, is another bedroom with a double bed and a single bunk that is serviced by a lower deck Jack-and-Jill bathroom.
The Viking 44C comes fitted with a pair of MAN i6 800CRM engines as standard, though many owners choose to upgrade to Volvo D13 1000MHP diesel engines for top speeds of around 38 knots and consistent cruising of 33 knots. A proprietary hull boasting six feet of freeboard as well as a raked bow, chines and strakes provides superb lift and reduced spray while accelerating through the waves, and unmatched balance on the turn.
