The Viking 42C is a 42-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was produced by the New Jersey-based yacht building company between 2011 and 2016. This boat shares a hull with its sibling yacht, the 42ST, but boasts an altered main-deck layout as well an open flybridge for elevated piloting. One of the smaller yachts built by Viking, you will find that this vessel still has plenty of fishing, relaxation and rest space thanks to an almost 16-foot beam. This yacht was also the first model in the Viking range to be equipped with Zeus pod-drive engines for a more efficient and quieter ride. Though no longer produced as new, the Viking 42C remains hugely popular on the used and charter markets thanks to its sleek and sporty profile, hand-finished luxury interior and competitive-fishing prowess. Viking also built a 42 Open and a 42 Sport Tower when the model was originally offered new.
This yacht can be fitted with a custom-made tuna tower provided by Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers for turnkey-ready tournament fishing. If you decide to hold back on this additional extra then there is plenty of opportunity to command your vessel from an open-air position on this model’s lofty flybridge, where you will find a pair of Release Marine or Murray helm chairs. The centrally located, walk-around upper helm station has been kitted out by Atlantic Marine Electronics and features essential nautical equipment such as a Furuno depth-finder, SmartCraft VesselView monitors, an ICOM VHF radio, single-lever CMD controls, trim-tab controls, power-assisted steering and an optional joystick. The flybridge also hosts a forward seating area with a pair of Sunbrella chaise-longues and a loveseat with views out across the foredeck.
One level down and you will find an aft-cockpit with 122-square feet of dedicated fishing space featuring a transom door and lift gate, non-slip fiberglass surfaces, insulated fish boxes, a transom livewell, four mounted rod holders, tackle and bait trays, fresh and raw-water hoses, intuitively placed grabrails, engine access and a floor plate for a fighting chair. The cockpit also hosts a mezzanine level with a starboard side sofa, a drinks chiller and integral speakers linked to the yacht’s home entertainment system.
The salon is as plush as you will ever find on a sportfishing yacht, and features teak-lined cabinets to port, an L-shaped leather lounge sofa to starboard, as well as a dining sofa hugging a hand-made breakfast table. A sunken galley impresses with bone-pale Corian work surfaces, Amtico flooring, a two-burner electric hob, a microwave combination oven, under-counter Sub-Zero fridge and freezer units, chrome fixtures and a large sink. The galley also features a raised cocktail bar with a pair of stools that connects directly to the salon.
A pair of sedate staterooms await as you make your way to the lower-deck, with an en-suite twin bunk berth sitting to port and a master stateroom snugly fitted in toward the bow. The master room features a queen-sized bed, maple-lined hanging lockers and a bathroom with a shower cubicle. There is also room on this level for a third twin bunk berth, though this necessitates moving the galley into the salon at the expense of some main deck living space.
The Viking 42C’s modified V-hull with pods provides excellent seafaring across bluewater conditions, while this yacht can also be fitted with a Seakeeper stabilizer for additional protection against roll in choppy seas. Buyers of this yacht can expect top speeds in the mid-30 knot range thanks to a pair of Cummins QSB440 Zeus pod-drive engines, with cruising speeds clocking in at almost 30 knots.
