The Viking 80C is an 80-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was launched by the New Jersey-located boat building firm in 2016. One of the larger yachts in the open convertible range, the 80C impresses with high-performance capabilities, an aggressively styled profile with a super-fine bow, and the sort of deluxe bill-fishing equipment that tournament competitors demand. Yet the 80C is not just geared up for chasing record-breaking marlin, but also features the level of comfort, luxury and space that makes it a great option for family cruising, too. The Viking 80 Enclosed Bridge offers the comfort of a climate-controlled bridge and helm station.
This yacht comes equipped with a bespoke tuna tower fitted by Viking Yachts subsidiary Palm Beach Towers for elevated piloting, angling and reconnaissance with long-distance, 360-degree views. Sloping aluminum ladders lead down to an expansive flybridge that features plenty of relaxation space including a forward dining sofa with a teak cocktail table, a pair of curved chaise-longues fitted against the sides of the bridge, as well as plenty of storage space for rods and wet-bar facilities including a drinks cooler, a freezer and a sink. The bridge features Viking’s signature walk-around helm station with a teak helm pod, three Stidd or Release Marine helm chairs, and instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics featuring controls and display monitors from the likes of Garmin, Octoplex and Blue Vision.
On the main deck the 216 square-foot aft cockpit is a teak-lined space that has been fine-tuned to provide the ultimate fishing experience. A transom door and lift gate, a freezer, an Eskimo ice-chipper, tackle storage, flush rod holders, a live well, a pair of fish boxes and a floor plate for a fighting chair or rocket launchers are just some of the amenities out here. There is also a split mezzanine level hosting a four-seater sofa and a chilled drinks cabinet for when even the most energetic fishers require a spot of rest.
An electric sliding glass door leads from aft cockpit to internal cockpit and welcomes you into a luxurious and tastefully appointed space designed by naval stylist William Bales. There is a 7-seater hook-shaped leather sofa to port surrounding a centerpiece coffee table and a pair of armchairs, and plenty of cabinetry in satin-finished walnut, as well as a day-head, to starboard. Moving forward you will find a U-shaped dinette sofa surrounding a breakfast table, sitting across from a walk-in galley with country kitchen dimensions. The galley boasts granite worktops, a serving bar with three plush stools, a Sub-Zero fridge, a four-zone hob, a combination oven and a double-sink. Forward of the dining area is a snug storage room that can be used to store fishing equipment, be kitted out as a pantry or even turned into an on-deck guest cabin.
The below-deck space on the Viking 80C is arranged in a popular five stateroom layout, with each bedroom benefiting from en suite facilities. Two bunk berths to starboard sit across from a double bedroom to port and a master double nestled up against the bow. Yet it is the full-beam amidship owner’s stateroom that will be fought over by guests. This room features two windows built into the hull sides for extra natural light, a work-desk, an armchair, a pair of maple-lined hanging closets, a king-sized island bed and a bathroom featuring couple’s sinks and a fiberglass shower cubicle.
The Viking 80C garnered a slew of rave reviews regarding its performance and handling upon its release, and despite the hefty size this is a quick mover in both blue-water and inshore conditions. The yacht is fitted with a pair of CAT C32A 1925MHP engines as standard, but can be equipped with twin MTU V16 M96L 2635MHP diesels as an optional upgrade. Should you choose the latter set-up then you can expect top speeds to smash the 40-knot barrier, with comfortable cruising in the range of 30 knots. A Seakeeper M26 gyrostabilizer reduces roll out at sea for a more stable experience in rugged waters, while a proprietary planing hull combines a sharp entry, high forward chines and quad running strakes for a dry, buoyant and balanced ride. With 2,600 gallons of diesel in the fuel tank, this yacht is also perfect for sport fishing enthusiasts who like their extended trips out to sea.
