Azimut is a highly awarded brand as well, having recently won both the "Best Layout" award for the 72 Fly and "Best Performance" for the Verve 48.

The History Of Azimut Yachts
In 1969, Azimut Yachts was founded by a young university student, Paolo Vitelli, when he began chartering sailboats. In 1970, Azimut Yachts quickly expanded its operations through distribution outside of Italy, as well as stepping into yacht design. They had an immediate success with the Azimut 43-foot Bali, a mass-produced fiberglass boat that was created in joint venture with Amerglass.
After a successful launch, the Azimut designers began to focus on the lower end of the market with the 32-foot Targa in 1977. This particular yacht was nicknamed the ‘Ford T’ of the boat world. Then came the debut of the Azimut 105-foot Failaka in 1982, this was the largest mass-produced yacht in fiberglass at its time.
A few years later in 1985, Azimut Yachts acquired the Benetti Yachts brand. Benetti was a company with a long, rich history since 1873 and based in Viareggio. Benetti would be a perfect partner for Azimut to grow their own line of larger cruising yachts with increased production capacity. Azimut and Benetti together have gone on to set new standards in design and production in the boating industry. The 1990's were a growing phase for Azimut, as they continued to grow their dealer network, acquire new shipyards in Europe, and even set up a production facility in Brazil.
In 2009, Azimut expanded the style of its model range by introducing the Magellano series. Described as the first cross-over yacht, the Magellano 74 entered the scene as a long-distance trawler yacht combined with many of the luxurious attributes in the other Azimut models. Azimut has continued to enter new markets with new models lines and variations, such as the outboard-powered Verve.
Are Azimut Yachts Any Good?
Purchasing an Azimut Yacht is an investment in your lifestyle, one that your family and friends will enjoy for years to come. When buying a luxury yacht, the owner is expecting a certain level of quality in its craftsmanship and performance. Even though Azimut produces a large number of vessels each year, they have done as good of a job as other shipyards in their class to minimize problems.
Are Azimut Yachts any good? One way to tell is to look at the manufacturers of the components that go on each Azimut. For example, for power options on their flybridge yachts, Azimut offers either Volvo Penta engines or MAN engines, both known for quality. On the much larger Grande models, the preferred power choice is MTU, again one of the leading engine manufacturers for large yachts anywhere in the world.
Azimut has also made a commitment to the interior accommodations and decor throughout the main and lower decks. Fine woods, stone, and fabrics are selected for both durability and comfort.
What Are The Most Popular Azimut Models?
With so many Azimut boat models to choose from in a wide range of sizes, determing the most popular Azimut overall can be difficult. On the larger end of the model range, the Azimut Grande 27 Metri sold more units than any of the other Grande models above 80-feet.
Historically, the Azimut 72 Fly has also been considered a popular model with many vessels being sold over the years. Azimut has revamped the 72 Fly as a new model, complete with twin MAN 1,400MHP engines for a top speed of up to 31 knots. It is also highlighted by an improvement in overall interior space and volume, compared to its older, previous versions.
The Azimut Verve 40, now replaced by the Verve 42, has numerous vessels sold on the brokerage market. Characterized by speedy performance thanks to multiple Mercury outboard engines, this makes the perfect tender for the larger Azimuts or a personal day cruiser for the boater that enjoys the Italian style.
Which Is Better - Azimut Or Sunseeker?
An often asked question of boat buyers in this category of yacht is whether Azimut or Sunseeker is better. Of course, both shipyards produce very similar models in the form of flybridge yachts, express cruisers, and superyachts. The answer isn't as clear cut as choosing one over the other. Comparing relevant models to each other is a good way to determine which boat is right for you, as opposed to which might have an overall better reputation.
Sunseeker Yachts are widely known for their speed, just as much as their performance. However, the Sunseeker 76 with twin 1,550HP engines clocked 33 knots, which happens to be just 3 knots higher than the Azimut 78, which has triple Volvo Penta 1,000HP engines. So from a speed standpoint, both yacht builders are pretty comparable. The differentiator between the two brands comes down to simply which style the owner likes better.
