The Viking 72C is a 72-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was released by the renowned New Jersey boat building firm back in 2016. Combining the practicality of a tournament-ready, bluewater gamefishing boat with the sort of style, luxury and size expected from a weekend cruising yacht, the 72C has proven to be one of Viking’s most popular models to date. For anglers in colder climates or that enjoy a climate-controlled helm station, the Viking 72 Enclosed Bridge model offers total luxury in operating a sportfish.
A bespoke Palm Beach tuna tower sits atop this sleek and sporty vessel, providing the perfect place to look out for white marlin or bluefin tuna as you steer your vessel. Aluminum ladders lead down to a spacious flybridge with a hard-top and a removable Costa Clear screen, where up to twelve guests can enjoy elevated views sitting across a forward sofa, a pair of side chaise-longues and three Release Marine or Stidd helm chairs in teak and leather. The flybridge features the signature Viking walk-around helm station with an Atlantic Marine Electronics dashboard, Garmin instrumentation, a glazed teak helm pod, VIPER power steering and thruster controls.
On the main deck you will discover one of the largest aft-cockpits on a yacht of this class, boasting 209-square feet of dedicated fishing space that has been fine-tuned for the tournament experience. A transom door with a lift gate, a pair of live-wells capable of hosting sizeable gamefish, flush rod holders, tackle storage, an Eskimo icemaker, bait trays, salt and fresh-water hoses and waterproofed teak surrounds are just some of the many fishing amenities to be found out here. The cockpit also comes with a floor plate for the installation of a fighting chair or rocket launcher and features an almost full-beam mezzanine level with a four-seater Sunbrella sofa and additional storage hidden underneath the all-weather cushions.
While the outdoor spaces aboard the Viking 72C are crafted around the practicalities of fishing, when stepping indoors the emphasis is firmly on comfort and luxury. A William Bales-designed interior impresses with plenty of American Walnut, plush leather and refined upholstery, while wrap-around windows and recessed mood lighting keep this space light and breezy day and night. A convenient day-head and finely crafted cabinets to starboard sit opposite a huge J-shaped sofa with room for up to 9 guests that hugs a centerpiece coffee table. Alongside this sofa is the L-shaped, walk-in galley kitchen. Here you will find a cocktail bar with three stools, granite worktops, a two-zone hob, a combination oven, a Sub-Zero fridge, crown-molded walnut cabinetry and a large stainless-steel sink. Across from this sits a family-sized U-shaped dining sofa with a Hi-Lo table, where you will enjoy tucking into your latest catch.
On the lower level there is room for up to 9 overnight guests and crew across a series of sedate bedrooms. To the rear is a double bunk-berth with storage and its own en suite that can be used as a crew quarters. A further en suite double bunk berth is positioned on the port-side of the yacht, next to a double en suite bedroom at the bow that comes with an additional single bunk bed. Yet the standout room on this level is undoubtedly the amidship owner’s stateroom. This stunning bedroom has space for a California King island bed with bed-side tables, a loveseat, maple-lined cabinets, a pair of hanging closets and an en suite bathroom with a shower.
The Viking 72C can be fitted with a range of engine options, from the standard MAN V12 1550MHP up to the most powerful option, a pair of MTU V16 M96L 2635MHP engines. If you go with the latter option then this yacht can reach top speeds of almost 46 knots, with efficient and comfortable cruising of around 35 knots. A fuel tank holding some 9,819 liters of diesel will keep you out at sea for days on end, while a Seakeeper gryostabilizer and a proprietary planing hull provide plenty of balance in a range of conditions.
