The Viking 66EB is a 66-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with an enclosed flybridge that was released to the public back in 2012. Though no longer produced as new at the Viking facility in New Gretna, NJ, this yacht remains highly popular on the used and charter markets thanks to its tournament-ready fishing credentials, all-weather piloting, high-performance handling and luxurious accommodation. Viking also produced a 66 Convertible, which you may still find pre-owned boats available on the brokerage market.
This yacht’s sleek and sporty profile can be topped with a lightweight and durable tuna tower provided by Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers to turn this vessel into a fish-finding and fish-fighting machine. Though even without a bespoke tower there is plenty here for fishermen to love, not least the 174-square foot, teak-lined aft-cockpit. This area has been crafted by experienced tournament competitors to provide the ultimate fishing experience, and includes essentials such as a transom door and lift gate, a transom fish box, a refrigerated livewell, Rupp flush and mounted rod holders, fresh and salt-water hoses, an icemaker, tackle and bait storage and an aluminum floor-plate for the installation of a fighting chair or rocket launcher. There is also a mezzanine level back here with a Sunbrella sofa, a drinks chiller and a freezer.
Up on the bridge you will find a centrally positioned Stidd helm seat in leather with superb visibility out of wrap-around windshield windows, and a dashboard that has been fitted by Atlantic Marine Electronics. The helm station features Furuno and Garmin instrumentation, bow thruster and trim tab controls, a pair of VHF radios and power-steering. Also located on this level are a set of satin-teak cabinets, an L-shaped leather sofa with a matching coffee table, a curved timber staircase down to the salon and an al-fresco aft-deck with a loveseat and a set of aft-controls used for docking.
The main deck salon benefits from a William Bales design treatment, and immediately impresses with glossy teak, authentic leather surfaces and panoramic side windows. There is an L-shaped sofa to starboard at the rear, and a convenient day-head to port, while stepping further indoors takes you to a U-shaped dining sofa with a breakfast table and the walk-in galley. This kitchen features granite worktops, a curved cocktail bar with two stools, a four-zone hob, a combination oven, a large double-sink, Amtico flooring and under-counter Sub-Zero fridge-freezer units.
There are three en-suite double or twin bedrooms aboard the Viking 66EB, as well as a separate bunk berth, offering more than enough room for the whole family. The master stateroom on this level boasts a queen-sized bed, bedside cabinets, maple-lined hanging closets and a bathroom with green granite counters and a fiberglass shower stall.
Yet where the Viking 66EB really proves its worth is out on the water, and thanks to a pair of CAT C32A 1925MHP or MTU V16 2000 M91 diesel engines you can expect top speeds of around 42 knots with cruising speeds of around 35 knots. Though large for a sportfishing yacht, the 66EB performs as nimbly as a much smaller vessel across both bluewater and inshore conditions due to a proprietary hull that is superbly balanced and efficient even at higher speeds.
