The Viking 46 Billfish is a 45-foot sportfishing yacht launched by the New Jersey-based boat building firm in 2020. The largest vessel in Viking’s Billfish class of yachts, the 46 combines the practicality, speed and sleek silhouette of previous Billfish models with added space, extra accommodation, and a lofty sport-bridge. Ideal for experienced tournament fishers and casual cruisers alike, this yacht is set to be one of Viking’s best-selling models yet.
The compact flybridge on the Viking 46 Billfish features a tournament-style walk-around helm station with enhanced visibility and a Release Marine chair, as well as a pair of side chaise-longue sofas and a Costa Clear protective cover. The helm boasts a glazed teak dashboard, a stainless-steel power-assisted steering wheel and instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics featuring Garmin equipment. All of the electronics from the Viking Yachts shipyard are installed by AME, their subsidiary partner.
At 140-square foot the cockpit will always feel roomy even when hauling big catches in through the transom door and lift gate. The cockpit boasts side fish boxes large enough to host tuna, a transom fish box and live-well with water pump access, rod holders, tackle storage, a bait freezer, hosepipes for fresh or raw water and a floor plate for custom fighting chairs and bespoke rocket launchers. There is also ample seating out here in the form of two raised mezzanine seats with backrests up against the cockpit dividing wall, while surfaces come either in authentic striped teak or glossy fiberglass.
The internal cockpit is a clean, minimalist and air-conditioned space with a starboard side sofa and, to port, a U-shaped dining sofa surrounding a teak hi-lo dining table. This internal space remains superbly well-lit with natural light thanks to curved, wrap-around windows across the front and sides, but also features LED inset lighting should you remain on board at night. At the front is a water-tight tempered glass door leading to a surprising amount of luxurious lower deck rest and relaxation room. To starboard there is a well-equipped galley with Antico flooring, Corian worktops, a two-burner Kenyon grill, a combination oven, a fridge and an icemaker. There is also a main head down here with a shower cubicle, a side bunk berth for two overnight guests and a roomy master stateroom with a queen-sized bed and a hanging closet.
The Viking 46 Billfish comes equipped with a Cummins QMS11 engine as standard, but many buyers choose to upgrade to MAN 16 850CRM engines for top speeds of 40 knots. Comfortable cruising clocks in at around 35 knots, more than quick enough to keep up with the feistiest bluefins in the ocean, while at 25 knots the yacht has an ocean-going range of around 440 nautical miles. A composite V-hull provides superb balance and durability in a range of conditions, making this yacht an ideal fishing vessel across both inshore and offshore bodies of water.
