The Viking 37 Billfish is a 37-foot sportfishing yacht that was produced by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts between 2017 and 2019. Though inspired by the golden age of tournament fishing boats, this is very much a yacht for the modern age, featuring contemporary styling, high-performance engines and the very latest in fishing and navigational equipment. The 37 Billfish was replaced in the Viking Yachts line-up by the 38 Billfish, but this versatile entry-level boat still sells well on the used and charter markets thanks to its large cockpit, open flybridge and surprisingly vast lower-deck accommodation.
The lofty flybridge on this model features a walk-around center-console upper helm station with instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics. The helm is fitted with Garmin display screens, power-assisted steering on a teak helm pod, VesselView panels, VHF Radios, a Cummins joystick and bow thruster controls, all sitting across from a teak-and-leather Release Marine helm chair. There is also room up here for a pair of Sunbrella chaise-longues and a forward-facing loveseat, making it a great place to enjoy favorable weather as you head out to the Bahamas.
The 86-square foot, teak-lined aft-cockpit, meanwhile, hosts fishing essentials such as a transom door with a lift gate, a bait freezer, a transom live-well, tackle trays, insulated fish boxes, fresh and raw-water hoses, a dunnage box, teaser reel outlets, an optional Eskimo ice-chipper, flush rod holders, a floor plate for a fighting chair and a pair of Sunbrella sofas on a mezzanine level.
Stepping indoors you will discover a bright and breezy seating area lined in non-slip fiberglass with a side sofa, a dining sofa surrounding a breakfast table, as well as a lower-helm station with superb visibility out of the command deck’s wrap-around windows. A water-tight companionway door at the head of the salon leads down to a spacious lower-deck lobby with high-gloss teak surrounds and Amtico flooring where you will find this yacht’s galley kitchen and an enclosed bathroom with a shower. The galley has been fitted with bone-pale Corian worktops, Sub-Zero under-counter fridge-freezer units, a stainless-steel sink, an electric hob, a combination oven and plenty of storage space. The master stateroom, meanwhile, sits snugly toward the bow and features a queen-sized bed, maple-lined hanging lockers and masses of hidden storage.
A pair of 550MHP Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel engines fire the Viking 37 Billfish to top speeds of 35 knots, with cruising speeds in the upper 20 knot range. Should you take things slower and glide along at the more leisurely pace of 8 knots then you can expect this yacht to have a range of almost 900 nautical miles, thanks to a fuel tank holding 440 gallons of diesel. While the 37 Billfish’s hull provides plenty of natural balance this is a yacht that can also be fitted with an optional Seakeeper stabilizer for reduced roll when searching for the elusive marlin in rougher waters.
