The Viking 60C is a 60-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with an open flybridge that was launched by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts in 2007. Though no longer produced as new by Viking, the 60C is still one of the best sportfishers ever built and retains its allure on the used and charter markets thanks to its sleek looks, unmatched tournament fishing prowess, thrilling high speeds and a high-class, hand-finished interior.
Though many boats in this class can be fitted with an off-the-shelf tuna tower provided by third party suppliers, the 60C can come with a bespoke tower custom-fitted to your yacht by Viking’s own subsidiary specialist, Palm Beach Towers. Though even without the raised piloting a tuna tower offers there is still plenty of opportunity for open-air raised piloting on this yacht’s spacious flybridge. A trio of leather-backed Murray helm chairs sit across from a walk-around fiberglass helm station with instrumentation installed by yet another Viking subsidiary, Atlantic Marine Electronics. Panels benefit from acrylic lids with gas-piston hinges to protect them from the elements, and the range of controls and feedback up here include Moritz Octoplex touchscreens, trim tab controls, ICOM VHF radio, Garmin or Furuno radar, a Simrad autopilot and power-assisted steering mounted on a teak helm pod. There is also room up top for a forward sky-lounge comprising a pair of side chaise-longues, a forward-facing sofa built into the back of the helm and a loveseat at the front.
One level down and you will find 170-square foot of aft-cockpit space that has been fine-tuned around the competitive fishing experience. A transom door with a lift gate, Rupp rod holders, a pair of insulated fish boxes, a livewell, tackle storage, fresh and raw-water hoses, a freezer, Glendinning Cablemasters, intuitively placed grab-rails, bait trays and a floor plate for a fighting chair are just some of the fishing essentials you will find back here. The cockpit also hosts a mezzanine level with a Sunbrella sofa and a drinks chiller, ideal for kicking back and relaxing with an ice-cold beer after landing your record haul.
While the outside spaces on this yacht are built around practicality, the interiors emphasize both comfort and luxury. Glossy teak cabinetry and hand-finished trim meet plush upholstery, authentic leather, custom Amtico flooring and frameless panoramic windows for an elegant and refined feel. There is an L-shaped sofa surrounding a coffee table to starboard, while to port you will find a curved cabinet unit with space for a home entertainment system. Sitting alongside this is a walk-in galley with Corian work surfaces, a cocktail bar with two stools, a stainless-steel sink, under-counter Sub-Zero fridge-freezer units, a 4-burner hob and a combination oven, across from a U-shaped dining sofa with a table.
On the lower deck buyers can choose between a 3 or 4 stateroom layout with room for up to 8 overnight guests. A bunk berth to starboard sits next to an en suite twin berth with an en-suite master double placed up by the bow. To port, meanwhile, there is a lavish owner’s stateroom with a queen-sized island bed, maple or walnut-lined closets, bedside cabinets and a large en-suite with a fiberglass shower stall.
Engine options on the Viking 60C start with a pair of CAT C32A 1825MHP diesels, though many buyers choose to upgrade to twin MAN V12 1800CRM engines for that extra burst of speed. At full-throttle you can expect to reach up to 40 knots, with cruising speeds of around 36 knots. This yacht also features a modified V-hull with an aggressive raked entry and convex deadrise sections for a soft and dry ride with superb stability and lift when on the move.
