The Viking 47C is a 47-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with an open flybridge that was produced by the New Jersey-based yacht building firm between 1994 and 2002. This yacht initially replaced the popular 45C, delivering upgrades such as a larger footprint, a modified V-hull, more powerful engines and a main deck layout that kept the salon, dinette and galley on the same level, a relative novelty at the time. Though this vintage yacht is no longer produced as new by Viking, it remains in high demand on the used and charter markets thanks to its timeless and sporty style, serious tournament chops and high-performance capabilities.
You will find that many a 47C has been fitted with a tuna tower provided by either Pipewelders or Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers, to turn this into the ultimate fishing machine. Though a tower is not the only place aboard this vessel where you can pilot from an elevated vantage point with superb visibility, as the open flybridge is equipped with a centrally located helm console with a pair of adjustable helm chairs. You can expect to find nautical essentials such as Garmin or Furuno radar fitted on the helm, along with SEA VHF radios, power-assisted steering, thruster controls, Robertson autopilot and a reliable Richie compass to help you navigate your way to tuna-rich waters. There is also space on the fiberglass-lined flybridge for a drinks chiller, a side chaise-longue and a forward-facing L-shaped sunpad-style sofa, making this a great place to relax or entertain.
At 135-square feet, the 47C’s aft-cockpit has to be one of the largest you will ever encounter on a yacht of this size or class. This space has been fine-tuned for the competitive fishing experience and boasts fishing amenities such as a transom door with a lift gate, Glendinning Cablemasters, fish boxes, a massive recessed livewell, a floor plate for a fighting chair and flush rod holders as well as a bait-prep console with tackle trays, a sink, rod storage, an ice-chipper, a bucket-style freezer and outlets for fresh and raw-water hoses.
Stepping indoors you will discover a single-level combined salon, galley and dinette decked out in glossy teak with an L-shaped sofa to port and cabinet space to starboard. The galley features a two-zone hob, Corian worktops, a Sharp combination oven, a fridge-freezer and a sink with garbage disposal, while the dinette is comprised of a formal L-shaped dining sofa surrounding a teak-topped breakfast table. Below deck space features a twin stateroom to starboard with a commodious en-suite master stateroom positioned up by the bow. Rooms boast cedar-lined hanging closets, plush carpeting, air-conditioning and plenty of hidden storage space.
The Viking 47C is still one of the swiftest and most agile fishing yachts out on the water even more than 25 years after it was first launched. A pair of 800MHP MAN 2848LTE diesel inboard engines provide top speeds of around 34 knots with consistent cruising speeds of 27 knots. This yacht’s proprietary hull, meanwhile, boasts a fully flared bow with a sharp entry, a deep mid-section and reverse chines for a dry, efficient and balanced ride across both inshore and bluewater conditions.
