The Viking 66C is a 66-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was launched by New Jersey-based Viking Yachts in 2012. Though no longer built to order at the Viking shipyard, the 66C has retained its allure on the used and charter markets due to its formidable fishing prowess, tournament-worthy top speeds and the high-class finish of its luxurious and spacious interior.
This yacht is the perfect option for dedicated anglers thanks to its 174-square foot, teak-lined aft-cockpit, a space that has been custom-built around the pelagic fishing experience. The cockpit boasts all of your fishing essentials such as a transom door with a lift gate, wells for fish and bait, refrigerated fish boxes, a freezer, tackle storage, flush rod holders, wash-down hoses and a floor plate for a bespoke fighting chair or rocket launcher. No one designs a better cockpit than Viking Yachts. There is also a mezzanine level back here with a leather sofa, a drinks chiller and an Eskimo icemaker, making it an adaptable space that can also be used as a family aft-lounge. The Viking 66C can also be fitted with a sturdy and durable tuna tower from Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers should you require elevated reconnaissance, piloting and angling.
Even without a tuna tower there is superb visibility from the raised helm on the 66C’s open flybridge. This bridge is lined in water-proofed fiberglass, features a hard-top roof and a gin-clear Costa Clear enclosure for added protection from spray. At the heart of the flybridge is a walk-around helm station with instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics. This helm features Lenco trim tab controls, ultra-responsive VIPER power steering, Octoplex electronics and brand-name radar and chart-plotting, all sitting across from a trio of comfortable Murray or Release Marine chairs in teak and leather. Guests, too, can enjoy the piloting experience up here, across a pair of side chaise-longues and a forward sofa with views out across the foredeck.
Many sportfishing yachts feature interiors with a spartan and utilitarian ethos, but not here. The 66C has been subject to an opulent design treatment by stylist William Bales, who has decked the salon out with glossy teak in chevron patterns, authentic leather, plush upholstery and sedate Amtico flooring. To the rear of the salon there is a convenient day-head by the door and an L-shaped sofa with a burl-accented coffee table to starboard. You will also find a galley kitchen island in here with granite worktops, a four-zone hob, a combination oven, under-counter Sub-Zero fridges and a cocktail bar with two stools, as well as a U-shaped dining sofa hugging a breakfast table. The lower deck space is just as luxurious and features three en-suite double bedrooms and a bunk berth for up to eight overnight guests. The amidship owner’s stateroom boasts maple-lined closets, a queen-sized island bed, bedside tables, a dressing room and a bathroom with green granite counters and a fiberglass shower cubicle.
The Viking 66C comes equipped with a pair of powerful MTU V16 2000 M91 diesel engines for top speeds of over 42 knots and cruising speeds of around 35 knots. At this lower speed you should expect a range of almost 600 miles at half-load, more than enough for a fishing expedition down to the Florida Keys. This yacht also boasts Viking’s first-ever totally infused hull with a moderate deadrise aft of 11 degrees for an efficient, balanced and pacey ride.
