The Viking 38 Billfish is a 38-foot sportfishing yacht that was launched by the New Jersey boat building firm in 2019. Designed as a versatile and high-performance entry-level boat for serious sport fishers, the 38 Billfish is a closed console yacht with a flybridge that builds on the success of the 37 Billfish and shares many of the same design elements as the 38 Open Billfish but with a hard-top cockpit.
The lofty flybridge on this vessel is open at the sides for supreme visibility and comes with a lightweight fiberglass top and a detachable, transparent Costa Clear windscreen for protection from sun and spray. A central, walk-around helm station boasts a Release Marine piloting chair, a Cummins joystick, bow thruster controls, a faux-teak and stainless-steel power-assisted steering wheel and a Palm Beach-style dashboard designed by Atlantic Marine Electronics with Garmin controls and touch screen instrumentation. Owner-operators do not have to pilot their yacht alone when up on the flybridge, as it is also large enough to host a pair of comfortable side sofas for up to six guests. The team at Viking Yachts has done a phenomenal job creating spacious areas for fishing and relaxing, all on a boat under 40-feet. SI Yachts can order you a brand new 38 Billfish with whatever options and equipment you choose.
The main deck aft cockpit has been designed with the dedicated fisher or angler in mind. With generous dimensions of 109 square feet, there is enough room back here to install the fighting chair and rocket launcher combo of your choice on the laminated, in-deck mounting plate. You will also find a pair of insulated fish boxes to port and starboard, a transom door and lift gate, a bait freezer box, a transom live well, fresh and saltwater pipes, tackle storage, rod holder points as well as a pair of mezzanine seats. Should the weather force you inside, the internal cockpit features a pleasant salon-style seating area with a U-shaped leather sofa to port that surrounds a hi-lo fiberglass table, with further seating to starboard that can be exchanged for a main deck helm station. The salon also benefits from hidden storage space under the seating that includes a drinks fridge, as well as plenty of natural light thanks to sharks-fin windows on either side and expansive glazing across the front.
A watertight door and steps down to the lower level reveal a surprisingly spacious starboard galley with a two-burner Kenyon hob, a combination oven, an Isotherm fridge-freezer and an icemaker. Only the finest materials have been used down here, with high-gloss teak joinery, Corian worktops and Antico flooring elevating what can often be a utilitarian space on sportfishing vessels into a luxurious if practical retreat. There is also a day-head down here equipped with a toilet, a walk-in shower cubicle, cabinetry and a sink, as well as a forward stateroom with a queen-sized island bed and hanging closets.
The Viking 38 Billfish can keep up with the quickest pelagic fish thanks to a pair of Cummins QSB 6.7 550MHP engines that provide top speeds of up to 36 knots. At lower cruising speeds of around 29 knots, meanwhile, this yacht boasts an enviable range of 366 nautical miles, more than enough to tire out the most energetic marlin. Naval architect Joe Snodgrass utilized the latest in computational fluid dynamics to develop an entirely new composite hull that maximizes speed, balance and efficiency in both inshore and blue-water conditions, making this a truly adaptable, tournament-ready vessel. A Seakeeper 6 gyro-stabilization system keeps this yacht stable when searching for a bite, while a Dometic climate control system keeps both guests and the engine room cool when on the move.
