The Viking 48 Open is a 49-foot open express sportfishing yacht that was launched by the New Jersey-based boat building firm in 2016. Combining tournament-ready fishing credentials with overnight space and sophisticated lounge areas, this yacht is just as likely to be used for family cruising as it is catching those huge billfish.
The Viking 48 Open can be fitted with a bespoke tuna tower from Viking Yachts subsidiary Palm Beach Towers to complete this boat’s turnkey-ready fishing appeal. Though even without a tower this is still a yacht that will blow the competition away. A 124-square-foot aft cockpit lined in waterproofed teak is one of the largest you will find on a vessel of this class and comes complete with a dual-purpose transom fish box and livewell, a transom door, bait coolers, stowage wells, flush rod holders and a floor plate for the installation of rocket launchers or fighting chairs. A split mezzanine level out here comes with two comfortable sofas and hidden, refrigerated drinks storage for those moments when you need to sit back and wait for a bite. There is also access to an optional Seakeeper 9 stabilizer for when you require reduced roll when out on choppy waters.
The command deck boasts a pair of L-shaped side sofas with teak-topped, angled breakfast tables, providing the perfect place to catch up with friends. At the front of the command deck sit three teak-and-leather helm chairs facing an Atlantic Marine Electronics dashboard with all of the instrumentation and controls required to chart your course to tuna-rich seas. The command deck benefits from extensive glazing to the sides, a windscreen with gin-clear visibility and an open aspect to the rear for a light and breezy feel.
A few steps down to the lower-deck reveals a spacious salon with an L-shaped sofa to starboard and a V-shaped galley kitchen with Cambria worktops, an under-counter fridge, a combination oven, and a four-zone electric hob. A further surprise on board the Viking 48 Open is that it can easily accommodate up to four overnight guests without ever feeling cramped. A twin bunk berth to starboard is joined by a spacious master stateroom to the bow with a double bed, maple-lined closets, and plush, carpeted floors. There is also a main head on this level with a fiberglass shower stall.
The Viking 48 Open comes equipped with a pair of powerful Man V8 engines for top speeds of 40 knots and cruising speeds of around 34 knots. A proprietary Viking hull, meanwhile, features a signature razor sharp entry, raked stem and molded running strakes for superb maneuverability, reduced spray and excellent fuel efficiency.
