The Viking 56C is a 57-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was produced by the New Jersey-based boat building firm between 2004 and 2010. The 56C was released as an upgrade to the ever-popular Viking 55, maintaining the same sleek style as its predecessor yacht but with a longer footprint, a wider beam, more powerful engines and a hull design fine-tuned for efficiency. No longer produced as new by Viking, the 56C remains in high demand with used and charter customers, with models often snapped up within weeks of being listed.
To really maximize this yacht’s tournament potential, many customers choose to equip it with a bespoke tuna tower provided and installed by Viking subsidiary Palm Beach Towers. Though even without this addition there is plenty of opportunity for elevated piloting from this yacht’s open flybridge. A fiberglass helm console attached to port comes with instrumentation installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics, and you will find essentials such as Teleflex power-steering and protective Lexan hatches up here, along with Icom VHF radio, RexRoth single-lever controls, Furuno radar, Simrad chart-plotter and a WXWork weather system. Buyers can choose to install Release Marine or Murray helm chairs on the flybridge, while there is also room on this level for a snug forward lounge with a side chaise sofa, a sunpad sofa and a drinks chiller.
One level down and the 56C’s competitive fishing credentials are on full display in the 157-square foot aft-cockpit, where you will discover a transom door with a lift gate, optional Rupp Outriggers, a recessed fish box, a livewell, four flush rod holders, fresh and raw-water hoses, an Eskimo ice-chipper, a floor plate for a fighting chair and a bait-prep console with a freezer, a tackle cabinet and a sink. If you prefer to use your cockpit to relax then you will be pleased to know it can also be fitted with a mezzanine Sunbrella seating area, aft-swim steps and a cocktail table in lieu of your fighting chair.
The air-conditioned salon on the Viking 56C is a symphony of glossy teak, plush carpeting, holly Amtico flooring, mirrored paneling and leather furnishings, all well-lit thanks to panoramic side windows and recessed lighting. An L-shaped sofa to port surrounds a bespoke coffee table and sits across from a curved cabinet area with room for your home entertainment system. Moving further inside you will discover a C-shaped dining sofa hugging a Hi-Lo breakfast table as well as the walk-in galley. The galley boasts Corian or granite work surfaces, a four-zone Kenyon hob, under-counter Sub-Zero fridge-freezer units, chrome fixtures, an optional Kenmore Clear icemaker and a combination oven.
Two en-suite double staterooms await as you take a few steps to the lower-deck, with one positioned to port and another nestled up by the bow. Each boast queen-sized island beds, maple or teak-lined hanging closets, hidden storage and bathrooms with brass fixtures and fiberglass shower cubicles. There is also a twin bunk berth to starboard down here, bringing the total overnight occupancy up to six.
Viking went back to the drawing board when designing the 56C’s unique hull, designing a raked stem, a Carolina-style bow flare, oval exhaust ports and prop pockets for reduced draft, higher speeds and superb balance. Buyers of this yacht can expect full-throttle speeds of over 40 knots and cruising speeds in the mid-30 knot range thanks to a pair of MTU 2000 V12 1480MHP inboard engines. And with a fuel tank holding 1,500 gallons of diesel, this is a yacht that can take you far and wide in search of tuna-rich waters.
