The Viking 53C is a 53-foot convertible sportfishing yacht with a flybridge that was produced by Viking Yachts between 1991 and 2001. The Viking 53C was one of the best-selling yachts in the world during the 90s, with over 100 models shipped to discerning buyers around the globe, with many to still be found on the water today. Though this vintage model has been out of production for quite some time, its classic good-looks, sedate interiors, still-powerful engines and tournament pedigree means it has not lost one iota of its significant allure on the used or charter markets. The re-sale value of a Viking Yacht is exceptional when compared to its competition.
This is the perfect yacht for a Palm Beach tuna tower, though even without this you will enjoy elevated reconnaissance and piloting from the open flybridge. This raised space features a fiberglass hard-top for protection from the elements, and boasts a forward seating area with a side chaise-longue and a forward-facing L-shaped sofa with views out across the foredeck. The helm station comes with a pair of teak-and-leather Pompanette chairs sitting across from a dashboard with Furuno and Garmin navigational equipment, Vetus bow and stern thruster controls and a pair of VHF radios.
One level down and you will find a 151-square foot aft-cockpit built around the tournament fishing experience. This space hosts a 29-foot-wide transom door, a six-foot recessed livewell, fish boxes, a bait prep console with tackle storage and a sink, an optional ice-chipper, mounted rod holders, washdown hoses, teak bright-work, Glendinning Cablemasters and even an optional swimming platform.
Stepping indoors you will find one of the most elegant salons ever designed on a convertible yacht, with masses of glossy Burmese teak, mirrored wall panels, plush carpeting and cream leather furnishings, all perfectly lit day or night thanks to panoramic side windows and recessed mood lighting. To port there is an L-shaped sofa surrounding a curved coffee table, while to starboard there is room for a bespoke cabinet unit and a TV stand. Located amidship is a walk-in galley kitchen with parquet flooring, a Jenn Air combination oven, a Whirlpool fridge-freezer, an icemaker, a 2-zone hob, a large stainless-steel sink and marble-effect Corian worktops. Gently sloping steps adjoining the galley lead to the lower deck level where you will find a port-side bunk berth, a double en-suite stateroom to the bow and a starboard en-suite owner’s stateroom with a queen-sized island bed. Rooms benefit from cedar-lined hanging closets, plenty of hidden storage space, opulent carpeting and bathrooms with moulded Corian surfaces and large shower cubicles.
The Viking 53C was one of the swiftest sportfishing yachts on the market when originally launched, and still outperforms many a new fishing boat to this day. A pair of MAN 2840LXE turbo-diesel engines provide top speeds of 33 knots at full-throttle, while at lower cruising speeds of around 25 knots the yacht has a range of almost 400 nautical miles. Many owners of the 53C have chosen to upgrade their engines over the years, so don’t be surprised to find even more powerful motors aboard this yacht. A proprietary modified V-hull combines a smooth entry with reverse chines and an aft-planing fairbody for improved balance and acceleration across both inshore and bluewater conditions, while a gel-coated surface has proven incredibly durable down the years.
