The Ocean Alexander 48 Altus is a 54-foot flybridge yacht that was produced by the award-winning Taiwanese yacht-building firm Ocean Alexander between 2004 and 2007. The bigger brother of the popular 42 Altus, this sporty vessel bears an Ed Monk Jr.-designed profile with classic and clean lines as well as handsome and spacious interiors with an emphasis on sophisticated comfort. This entry-level yacht maintains its appeal on the used and charter markets to this day thanks to the hand-finished quality of its build and the rugged durability of its gel-coated fiberglass hull.
Up on the flybridge you will an entirely al fresco space with nothing but a sculptural radar arch to get between you and the summer rays. There is a leatherette L-shaped sofa with a fold-out table up here, as well as a wet-bar station with chilled storage and an electric barbecue grill. To the rear there is space that can be used to either store a tender with a davit or be used as an aft-sun lounge. Up front there is a centrally located upper helm with elevated visibility out across a tinted, Venturi-style windscreen.
There is room on the foredeck for the obligatory open-air, marina-facing sunpad, while to aft there is a large, partially sheltered cockpit lined in teak with a pop-up table, space for an optional transom sofa and another wet-bar as well as gate access to a fixed bathing platform.
Satin-finished Burmese teak, plush carpeting, dark leather upholstery and rounded, frameless windows await as you enter into a lavish main-deck salon that includes a C-shaped, port-side sofa, a bespoke oval coffee table, a pair of leather Ottomans and plenty of curved, grain-matched cabinetry. A couple of steps up leads you to an open galley with granite counters, a stainless-steel sink, a three-zone hob, a combination oven, a capacious fridge and a dishwasher. To starboard there is a handsome main-deck helm station boasting a Raymarine display screen, thruster controls, VHF radio, trim tabs, an oversized steering wheel and a leather-clad piloting seat.
One advantage this larger yacht has over its smaller sibling is lower-deck space for a third cabin, and this twin bunk room shares a head with a queen-sized VIP suite. The master stateroom is located forward, and boasts a skylight, a queen island bed, a full-height closet, mirrored wall panels, soft carpeting, cushioned wall panels and a bathroom with an enclosed shower stall.
A pair of 440mhp Yanmar diesel inboard engines deliver top speeds hitting the 25-knot mark, while at still-swift cruising speeds of approximately 20 knots you will enjoy a range of around 300 nautical miles.
