The Ocean Alexander 37 Legend is a 120-foot superyacht with a flybridge launched by the award-winning Taiwanese brand Ocean Alexander in 2022. Classic, sculptural lines and sophisticated interiors designed by naval stylist Evan K. Marshall combine to produce a yacht with the feel of an at-sea Manhattan penthouse. Yet this is also a serious piece of nautical engineering, boasting powerful engines and a rugged GRP hull that has been designed for long-distance ocean cruising towards endless horizons. The current flagship of the Ocean Alexander Legend series, the 37L looks set to be seen gliding into the world’s premier marinas for years to come.
Ocean Alexander Yachts have seemingly achieved the impossible with this yacht by providing 6 distinct outdoor lounges across the vessel’s tri-deck layout, each with a unique appeal. Those who prefer elevated luxury should head to the vertiginous skybridge, where a wrap-around sofa and a spa-pool jacuzzi sit underneath a hard-top canopy. One level down you will find a snug forward bridge lounge with a pair of sunpads and a bench-seat, while to aft there is a sprawling teak-lined aft-deck with room for sun-loungers, an outdoor dining sofa, a wet-bar with a barbecue grill and a hydraulic tender davit.
Down on the main-deck there are a pair of U-shaped sofas sitting snug up against a bow with high bulwarks that keep this foredeck lounge, positioned directly ahead of the main-deck owner’s stateroom, sheltered from spray. The aft-cockpit on the main-deck boasts a transom sofa, a pair of metallic tables and a walk-in wet-bar. But that’s not all, as side steps down to a full-beam swimming platform also give access to a transom door that opens up to reveal a water-level aft-beach club with an extending, teak-lined terrace, a set of sofas and a mini-bar. And to top it off, there is even a port-side fold-out gunwale on this model that turns into side terrace perfect for sipping cocktails with the waves gently lapping underneath.
Interiors are no less impressive. Poltrona Frau furnishings throughout lend a touch of elegance, while marble wall panels, off-white fabrics, pale oak flooring, glimmering steel fixtures, lacquered cabinets, geometric recessed lighting and floor-to-ceiling glazing promote a modern and sedate atmosphere. On the bridge deck there is a home entertainment lounge with sofas and table seating, along with an enclosed pilothouse with superb visibility, a map desk and three leather Stidd helm chairs. The bridge features a trio of Garmin multi-function touch screens, thruster controls, trim tabs, Furuno VHF and GPS, a NAVTEX receiver, a GC10 marine camera, Side Power Vector Fin stabilizer controls and much more.
On the main deck there is a stunning salon with room for an L-shaped sofa and a formal dining table, as well as an enclosed galley with granite or marble work surfaces, an American-style Sub-Zero fridge-freezer, a wine chiller, two Wolf ovens, a Thermidor microwave, a Wolf four-zone hob, a dual stainless steel sink, a trash compactor, an ASKO dishwasher, a pantry and a side access door for staff.
The owner’s stateroom sits at the front of the main-deck and features a king-sized bed, a curved seating lounge, a chaise-longue, cedar-lined closets, plush carpeting, cushioned wall panels, a walk-in dressing room and a bathroom lined in marble with a waterfall shower cubicle. Four more en-suite cabins for eight more guests are tastefully arranged across a lower-deck with panoramic hull glazing and plenty of head clearance, while to aft there is a separate crew quarters for up to five members of staff.
Twin MAN V12 1900mhp diesel engines are fitted to this yacht as standard, though upgrades to 2600mhp engines are also possible to deliver top speeds of 24 knots. At a cruising speed of 19 knots, you can expect a range of around 746 nautical miles, though truly ambitious explorers will likely proceed at a pace of 10 knots for a range of 3,250 nautical miles.
