The Ocean Alexander 54 Veloce is a 57-foot sportcruiser yacht with a flybridge that was launched by the award-winning Taiwanese yacht-building firm Ocean Alexander in 2007. Though no longer in production, this sleek and sporty vessel continues to entice admirers on the used and charter markets thanks to its streamlined, curvaceous looks, sportscar-like handling and elegant interiors with impeccable finishes. This yacht made quite an impact on launch, bagging the title for one of Robb Report’s “Best of the Best” yachts for 2007.
The low-slung flybridge remains entirely al fresco thanks to a radar arch that has been pushed back far aft, while a wrap-around Venturi windscreen snakes along the front and sides of this level to protect from spray. There is a centrally located helm station up here with dominant views out towards the bow that comes with a leather helm chair. This is flanked by a pair of plush, curving sofas, one of which surrounds an extending cocktail table, while to the rear there is room for a wet-bar station with a barbecue grill and more seating or tender storage. One level down, and the sheltered, teak-lined aft-deck impresses with a four-seater transom sofa in waterproof leather, while angled side steps lead down to a fixed, full-beam swimming platform.
Metal-framed sliding glass doors lead guests into one of the most sophisticated and sedate salons on the market. Rounded cabinets and curved bulkheads are lined in glossy Sakura cherry wood with teak-lining and burled accents, while floors boast sensuously soft carpeting and furnishings are clad in authentic cream leather. There is a c-shaped sofa to port surrounding a bespoke timber coffee table, with storage and a home entertainment system to starboard. Further forward you can expect an open galley with Silestone work surfaces, a stainless-steel Franke sink, a fridge-freezer tower, an induction hob, a combination microwave, Amtico flooring and masses of storage. Directly across from the galley there is the main deck helm station, where bow thrusters, engine feedback, VHF radio, trim tabs and a display screen will help you steer your vessel to distant horizons.
Climate-controlled lower deck cabins continue the main-deck’s elegant theme, and come with oval portholes, halogen lighting and good head clearance. A twin bunk berth sits to starboard and a double cabin to port both come with exotic timber-lined surfaces and cedar-lined lockers, as well as use of the lower-deck’s Jack-and-Jill bathroom with shower. The owner’s cabin on this yacht sits towards the bow and features a skylight, a double island bed, two full-height closets, a wall-mounted HDTV and an en-suite bathroom with granite-effect surfaces and a waterfall shower cubicle.
A pair of 480MHP Yanmar diesels or twin 597 MHP Caterpillar C9-ACERT engines fire this yacht to top speeds of up to 30 knots with cruising speeds of approximately 25 knots. A fiberglass semi-displacement hull, meanwhile, proves both balanced and efficient as you accelerate through the waves.
