With beaches, tidal creeks, and waterfront dining on its doorstep, Edgewater is perfect for fishers, kayakers, hikers, nature-watchers and foodies. And while this town of 9,000 offers a laidback, small-town vibe, its proximity to the state capital means you never have to choose between the quiet life and the bright lights of the city.
There is no shortage of places to drop anchor in Edgewater. Situated in Selby Bay, where the South River meets Chesapeake Bay, the Anchor Yacht Basin Marina is an attractive, spacious marina with 125 in-water slips for boats up to 80 feet in length with access to a large fuel dock and maintenance services. A 75-ton lift can accommodate most catamarans. Just a few steps away is the Selby Bay Yacht Club, a member-operated cruising and boating club with 72 in-water slips. As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Clubs Association, it offers reciprocal benefits to members of other clubs. Right next door is Harper’s Waterfront Restaurant, which features ample outdoor seating, inventive cocktails, and fresh seafood as well as traditional American fare like burgers and wings.

Edgewater is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty. At the tip of the peninsula is Beverly Triton Nature Park, a stunning coastal park surrounded by trees with hiking trails, a picturesque pond, an extensive beach, and designated fishing spots. Across the South River is Thomas Point Park, which sits at the extremity of Annapolis. While small, it is worth a visit for its access (via guided boat tour) to the impressive Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse.
Further upriver, you’ll find the Pier 7 Marina. More sheltered from the Bay, Pier 7 is a full-service marina with numerous short- to long-term slips that suit a variety of needs, including wide stern-to slips for catamarans and monohull craft, as well as T-head slips for easy entrance and exit. Other amenities include boat lifts, secure land storage with 24-hour key fob access and unlimited use of the marina’s private boat ramps, 30- and 50-Amp outlets, freshwater hookups, Wi-Fi, and an on-site marine service team for all your maintenance needs. One you’ve moored here, head over to Coconut Joe’s Bar and Grill for a scrumptious crab cake sandwich and other outstanding seafood dishes. Sailing south from here along the coastline, you’ll see the Historic London Town and Gardens, with quaint colonial architecture and beautifully-manicured landscapes.
Edgewater is an ideal base for exploring the largest estuary in the country. Visitors can sail or charter a boat to scenic destinations like St. Michaels, Kent Narrows, or Oxford. Each Summer, Washingtonians flee D.C. for the stunning harbor town of St. Michaels, frequently compared to the Hamptons thanks to its upscale charm. Eminently walkable with a plethora of independent businesses and family-owned restaurants, St. Michaels is a perfect weekend getaway, and can be reached by boat from Edgewater in a day, or by an overnight charter that departs from Pier 7.
