The team at Viking Yachts has been busy. Just less than two months after unveiling the new Valhalla V46 designs, Viking CEO Pat Healey announced the new 54 Convertible would make its public debut at the 2020 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. "It's a boat that's been in development for the last year," said Pat in a video message posted to Vimeo. "This is our sweet-spot and we have this design down bulletproof."
Just released: Video of the very first sea trial of the Viking 54C.
Viking Yachts has long been a leader in the mid-size convertible sportfish category, particularly between 50 and 60 feet. "Viking has designed more boats in that category than anyone else in the industry," said Rich Lucas, Viking Brand Manager for SI Yachts. "There have been 10 new models introduced in the last 20 years between 50 and 60 feet. All that knowledge, all those lessons learned, they've all culminated to this point in time where it's been put into production in the 54C. It's going to be an absolute fishing machine."
The Business End.
At 154-square feet and loaded down with fishing features, the 54C is certainly going to live up to its Viking reputation. The cockpit sole is molded non-skid for safer maneuvering around when it's wet and the large scuppers quickly drain excess water that's splashed in the boat. A mounting plate is anchored into the cockpit sole as well that can handle the sturdiest fighting chairs or rocket launcher.
The obvious benefits for the serious angler include multiple insulated fishboxes at various sizes, several options for big live-wells, rod holders, and a lazarette hatch that opens to reveal a dedicated Seakeeper space. The signature Viking mezzanine is present as well and offers ultra-leather couches with air-conditioning for the best seat "not" in the house.
There are some more subtle details about the cockpit space on the 54C that are even more intriguing though. For example, there is deep toe kick so you can stand right up against the coaming and not have to worry about losing your balance as you maneuver around other anglers. This extends across the transom and walk-through door which is an easy lift gate. There is also only a 3-foot reach between the cockpit and the waterline meaning there's no extreme bending when releasing a billfish.
View For Days.
Viking's subsidiaries Palm Beach Tower and Atlantic Marine Electronics work seamlessly together to construct the perfect combination for the 54C. The custom-built tuna tower can be installed with the very best navigation, entertainment, and communication electronics.
The upper helm station has everything you need to find the fish while enjoying the incredible views. There really is no feeling as exhilarating as cruising in turquoise waters at 30+ knots from the tower control station. The 54C will turn at the drop of a hat thanks to the Optimus Electronic Power Steering captains will love when driving from the tower helm. This also includes a stainless steel steering wheel and single-lever controls.
Comfortable Interior Turns A Sportfish Into A Cruising Boat.
Sometimes cruising in your Viking is just as much fun as the excitement of a billfish on the line. From the spacious layout of the interior, to the high-gloss wood cabinetry, to the comfortable guest cabins, every Viking Convertible can double as a cruising boat.
The salon is open and bright with large windows. The main seating area, dining area, and full galley are all in an open concept so no one is ever out of the conversation. An entertainment center with flatscreen television and cabinets is starboard and across from the L-shaped sofa portside. The long galley countertop is made of engineered stone and has two bar stools for extra seating. All appliances are the absolute best quality and extra storage space means you can pack supplies for days.
The 54C features a 3-stateroom, 2-head layout that most owners in this size range prefer. The master suite is placed midship and features an en suite bathroom, queen-sized berth, 32" television, and an abundance of storage. The VIP cabin is placed in the bow and owners can order either a queen berth or two additional bunks in a cross-over arrangement. The third guest cabin features over/under bunks and shares the second head with the VIP. Both heads feature full walk-in showers with beautiful appointments.
Power Packs A Punch.
With a top speed of 40 knots, the Viking 54 Convertible has to have some serious power. Viking has chosen MAN engines for their reliability, performance, and after-sale service. The base diesel package are twin V12 1400CRM 1,440MHP engines. For owners that want that extra horsepower, MAN V12 1550CRM 1,550MHP engines can be installed.
