SUV's have become the preferred vehicle for Americans thanks to their space, comfort, and ability to store more items than a traditional car. This transition didn't happen overnight, but gradually evolved as auto-makers listened to their customers need for more space without sacrificing performance. Similarly, Princess has continued to evolve in many areas including design, but also innovation. The new R-35 is a perfect example of Princess stepping outside their comfort zone by using the Active Foil System and carbon fiber to hit the 50-knot mark.
With the new Princess X-95 Super Flybridge, dubbed the luxury SUV of the seas, the Plymouth-based shipyard has succeeded in creating a 30-meter yacht with the same usable volume as many larger superyachts. The entire flybridge literally stretches from the back of the cockpit nearly to the front of the bow.
In a recent statement about the new model, Princess Executive Chairman Anthony Sheriff said, "The X95 breaks the mould of traditional yacht design. The unique open plan architecture is brought to life through our design partnership with the legendary styling house Pininfarina. The layout provides 10% more outdoor space and 40% more indoor space than a traditional motor yacht. This leap forward in space and versatility mirrors recent innovations from luxury automotive brands who have developed crossover models."
Motorboat & Yachting's Nick Burnham goes inside the X-95 as it's being constructed. (The tour starts at 4:04.)
If nothing else, the Princess X-95 is versatile. Owners will love the comfort of the enclosed flybridge without losing the sunbathing and outdoor dining space of the traditional flybridge. As you can see below, the bow lounge area is on the same elevated deck as the enclosed bridge and the aft sunbathing platform. There is an optional jacuzzi on the bow along with an area to dine al fresco.
The enclosed skylounge has several options in terms of layout. There is a L-shaped couch starboard with coffee table just aft of the wheelhouse helm station. Owners have the option of selecting to have a guest head added to the skylounge in place of a cabinet and entertainment area. There is also an internal staircase from the enclosed bridge to the main deck.
The aft section of the flybridge is reminiscent of an upscale beach club in South Beach, Miami. There are multiple options available for free-standing furniture in this area including sectional sofas, loveseats with tables, and sun lounges. A large circular outdoor dining table with 10+ chairs is closest to the enclosed skylounge and can be covered from the elements by the hardtop overhang. Elegant lighting creates the perfect ambiance for a sunset cocktail or meal with friends and family.
Descending the outdoor staircase from the flybridge brings you to the shaded, generously sized aft cockpit. There are twin transom gates which lead you to the hydraulic swim platform that has both a hot and cold shower. You've heard of a transom platform before, but have you heard of a 'Transformer Platform'? Extending the platform out allows for very easy loading and unloading from a tender as well as provides an excellent diving platform with ample space. A large, curved couch is farthest aft and owners have the choice of having one teak dining table or two smaller tables with chairs. The cockpit is entirely shaded from the flybridge overhang to protect your outdoor dining experience from weather.
Stepping through the over-sized aft cockpit sliding doors, the amount of open space in the salon is astounding. Large picture windows line each side of the salon allowing for exceptional views while in the comfort of the indoors. The fit-and-finish is exquisite in true Princess fashion. The SUV-like openness even gives you a clear line of sight through the forward window. Owners have several customization options for the salon including teak or carpet flooring, multiple combinations of the free-standing furniture, and the ability to have a forward VIP on the main deck or use that space for the galley.
As seen below, Princess has offered multiple main deck arrangements on the X-95.
Regardless of the layout choice selected, the galley is forward on the main deck in between the forward sitting area (or forward VIP option) and the staircase to the lower deck. The galley features an island unit with bar chairs, and twin stainless steel sinks. Twin full-height refrigerators allow you to store food for longer cruising adventures. There is a NAIM audio entertainment unit incorporated into the dining area as well.
The lower deck on the X-95 has four staterooms each with their own en suite head with crew quarters aft. The master suite (seen below) is midship and stretches the full 22' beam of the yacht. The large double berth has nightstands on each side along with storage underneath. A spacious dressing area with wardrobes, a two-seater sofa, and a full entertainment system with 55" television create a comfortable, restful oasis from the day's activities. Additionally, the transom garage is large enough that owners do have the option of turning this into a sizable sitting area for the crew.
Performance-wise, the Princess X-95 will not disappoint. Princess has outfitted her with twin MAN V-12 1,900mhp engines for a top speed of 26 knots and a pleasant cruising speed in the high teens to low 20-knot range. Enjoy the power-assisted electro-hydraulic steering system and bow thrusters with an awesome 1,210 lbs. of force. With a fuel capacity of 3,540 gallons, long-range cruising in total and complete luxury is at your fingertips.
