For awhile it seemed as if HCB Yachts would continue to build bigger, more amazing center-console yachts with no end in sight. First came the 53 Suenos which took the marine industry by storm when it launched. Sportfishing Magazine called it "massive" and "immense" in the world of center-consoles. Then came the 65 Estrella which Power & Motor Yacht Magazine called "65 feet and an army of horses", along with giving it the title of world's largest center-console.
As speculation grew as to what model would come next from HCB Yachts, a change at one of the engine manufacturers spurned the idea for some innovative updates to what was the 42 Siesta. The result was the new HCB 42 Lujo, a true challenger for the top 40-50 foot center-console in any class or category. "HCB Yachts have compromised nothing in the construction of the 42 Lujo," says Forest Anderson, SI Yachts Sales Professional. "The customization efforts on every boat from the factory are unmatched and the performance is nothing short of exceptional. This is the Rolls-Royce of luxury center-console yachts."
One of the first big, noticeable changes made to the 42 Lujo was the addition of a full transom bench seat (seen above). Being that many HCB owners also use their yachts for entertaining, cruising, or as a luxury tender for their motor yacht, the option of having more seating in back with a teak cocktail table made a lot of sense. The ultra-rich leather upholstery not only feels incredible, but it withstands the elements better as well.
More seating changes were also implemented at the console helm station. Three Release Marine helm chairs offer comfortable seating during lengthy rides, but these chairs swivel now and have storage underneath. Additionally, the hardtop has also been updated. Both of these changes bring the 42 Lujo more in line with the 53 Suenos.
Perhaps the most important change from the 42 Siesta to the 42 Lujo came with a change in the design of the bottom of the hull and its overall displacement. The Lujo is a thousand pounds heavier than the Siesta which better supports the quad Yamaha 425's or the Mercury Verado 450's. "The new hull design really compliments the horsepower," continued Forest. "The new design completely eliminates any bow rise for a really smooth performance."
42 Lujo owners will also appreciate the additional fuel capacity thanks to changes made to the fuel system. Owners can now have over 740 galls of fuel with the extra tank compared to 614 with the Siesta.
While redesigning the seating and making the changes to the hull, the team at HCB also decided it was time to make some adjustments to the interior cabin. The head/shower is now entirely separate and enclosed for added privacy. The cabin itself is also 50% larger in volume than it was previously. It features a small galley, S/S refrigerator, solid wood cabinetry, added storage, and lots of other features. HCB has truly taken the interior accommodations to the limit of what a 42-foot center-console can offer.
