What a summer it has been! Boat dealers and yacht brokerages saw an incredible boom in sales starting in April that has continued into the fall. Owners looking to trade up, as well as first-time buyers, flocked to the water to safely relax during COVID-19 causing one of the hottest selling seasons we can remember. Nearly 50% of all boat sales this year were new boaters compared to the usual 20% seen in years past.
BoatTest.com, the leading boat video review website, has reported that inventory levels across the country have become limited. "Anyone looking to purchase a new boat either needs to jump on available inventory now or place an order now," said Jay Hendrix, Vice President of SI Yachts. "If you were planning on purchasing in the spring, it's in your best interest to make the decision sooner rather than later. If you wait until the spring to buy, there's a chance you may not get the exact model with the perfect options that you want. No one wants to settle, so our advice is to be proactive and secure your boat now for 2021."
Brokerage sales of pre-owned yachts have also skyrocketed creating a seller's market. "The brokerage market is hot right now," continued Jay. "Late-model boats that are in good condition are selling fast and for top dollar. If you've been thinking about selling your yacht, this market is as good as it gets!"
