The VanDutch 40 is a 40-foot dayboat that was launched by the iconic Netherlands-based yacht-building firm VanDutch in 2019. An updated edition of a boat that originally made waves in 2011, this model retains the sleek looks, monolithic profile and ultra-contemporary styling of the original version but with a redesigned hull, a longer form, revitalized design features and an extra burst of power. Crafted by naval stylist Frank Mulder, the VanDutch Yachts 40 is a must for boaters who like to enjoy sophisticated cruising at the cutting-edge of avant-garde style.
To stern is a new swimming platform lined in teak-effect Esthec, with an accompanying swim ladder, which joins onto a streamlined side-rail for easy docking. This sits just a step beneath a stern-facing triple-width sunpad with pop-up backrests for added comfort and, like the rest of the main-deck furnishings, is upholstered in your choice of luxurious and water-resistant Silvertex fabric. The sunpad connects to an L-shaped sofa in the main cockpit that hugs a bespoke coffee and drinks table with integrated cup-holders and a hidden drinks cooler, while an aft-facing twin sofa provides more comfortable seating for convivial conversation and sultry evenings spent relaxing far out to sea. Up front you will discover a starboard side wet bar with chilled storage, solid countertops, a sink and an optional outdoor grill, perfect for keeping guests refreshed. The port-side helm station, meanwhile, boasts a modern dashboard with a pair of multi-function Garmin display screens, joystick handling, VHF radio, bow and stern thruster controls and a steering wheel, with a comfortable bench seat facing the controls. The upper cockpit sits behind a wrap-around windscreen that is as stylish as it is practical, while a Bimini roof can be erected in seconds for additional shade.
The sheer amount of lower-deck space on this modish yacht never fails to surprise. A minimalist design theme down here with clean lines, sparkling white surfaces, teak-effect flooring and block-stitched upholstery represents the very best of 21st century European style. A pair of skylights and recessed strip lighting keep things airy on this level, while a bow-sofa, a mini-galley and a deluxe bathroom with a separate shower cubicle offer all the amenities needed to turn day-boating trips into long weekends at sea.
More powerful engines on this new model mean top speeds of 41 knots instead of the 37-knot maximum you could achieve on the older VanDutch 40. You can choose between a pair of Cummins 480 diesels, twin Volvo Penta D6-440 inboards or two 380HP Volvo Penta stern drives that allow for an optional Seakeeper stabilizer to be fitted. Cruising speeds should clock in at around the 36-knot mark, allowing for speedy island-hopping and eye-catching coastal acceleration as you traverse some of the most fashionable watercourses in the world.
