The Tiara 5000 Express is a 53-foot express cruiser yacht that was produced by the iconic Michigan-based yacht-building firm Tiara Yachts between the years of 1999 and 2003. Straddling the categories between sport fisher and sport cruiser, this handsome and elegant vessel may not have reinvented the wheel, but it did deliver best-in-class dimensions, amenities, comfort and practicality. A sporty and gently curving profile with a flared bow and plenty of room to aft was paired to powerful engines and masses of room to kick back and relax after a hard day of angling, making this a great option for the casual angler with a family in tow.
At 93-square foot this is one of the biggest aft-cockpits you are going to find on a boat of this size, and this space to the rear is equally adept at functioning as a sun-kissed lounge or as a fish-focused workspace. An optional fishing package adds essentials such as macerated fish boxes, a live-well, an aluminum floorplate for a fighting chair, flush rod holders, a bait-prep center, a tackle drawer, water hose pipes and an ice-chipper. Alternatively, line the transom wall with a comfortable sofa, install a hefty wet-bar station out here, affix a pop-up breakfast table to the sole, pipe music through the integrated Bose speakers and enjoy sipping on Martinis at the raised Mezzanine sofa. Either way, a transom door, that also operates as a lift-gate, leads back to a full-beam swimming platform, with a transom locker, that is sturdy enough to host a dingy and broad enough for a group of swimmers to dive off and into the warm water.
Underneath a hard-top canopy with skylights you will find an L-shaped white leather sofa to port, a wet-bar with a grill and a starboard helm station with superb visibility out of sloping windscreen windows. The helm boasts Teleflex hydraulic steering, Bennett trim tab controls, a Raymarine or Garmin display screen, a Ritchie compass and VHF radio, while optional extras include a fish-finder.
A glazed companionway door leads down to a vast lobby where glossy cherry or teak surrounds join a teak and holly sole, Ultraleather upholstery, steel accents, recessed lighting and oval portholes for a roomy and sedate feel. There is a U-shaped leather dining sofa that surrounds a table lined in bird’s eye maple sitting across from an open galley with Corian work surfaces, a two-zone hob, Sub-Zero fridge-freezer units, a combination microwave, a built-in Black & Decker coffee machine and cabinets lined in Aurora Ash. The standard sleeping arrangement on this level includes a VIP double stateroom to the bow with an island bed, skylights, cedar-lined lockers and an en-suite head with a shower, along with a twin cabin and a main head to aft. However, there is also the option to fit in a third bunk berth on this level for larger parties at the expense of some space in the lower salon.
Powered by a twin set of 800MHP Caterpillar 3406E diesel inboard engines, the 5000 Express can reach top speeds of up to 34 knots with comfortable cruising speeds clocking in at around 28 knots.
