The Sunseeker Portofino 48 is a 51-foot sportscruiser yacht that was produced by UK-based yachting firm Sunseeker between 2010 and 2013. Blending the practicality and agility of a fast dayboat with the sort of overnight space and sublime style you would expect from a much larger vessel, the Portofino 48 is the ideal option for family cruising. This Sunseeker model replaced the outgoing Portofino 47 yacht, offering upgraded Volvo pod-drive engines, an updated contemporary design, more lower-deck living space, a sleek, arrowhead-profile and the very latest in marine technology.
Sun worshippers will adore the three-pad sunbed located out on the foredeck, where they can relax for hours on end in the heat, while a further elevated sunpad with a headrest perched above the transom provides yet more open-air rest space. Also be found at the rear of this boat are side steps leading down to a full-beam, timber-lined hydraulic swimming platform and a large tender garage capable of storing an inflatable and a jet-ski.
The cockpit on the Sunseeker Portofino 48 is open at the rear for an intimate connection to the elements that is further emphasized by crescent-moon side windows, a glazed retractable sunroof and a sloping gin-clear windshield at the front. This teak or white oak-lined space comes equipped with a hook-shaped sofa to port and a wet-bar console to starboard with a Raritan icemaker, a drinks cooler, a sink and a Kenyon electric griddle. At the front of the cockpit there are two loveseats, one facing the helm station, where Side Power bow thrusters, power-steering, trim tab controls, a Penta joystick, Simrad or Raymarine electronics and VHF radio promote confident navigation.
A watertight, glazed companionway door leads you down to the lower-deck lobby, where authentic timber floors play host to an L-shaped leather dining sofa hugging an extending breakfast table. Sitting across from this is an open galley with durable work surfaces, a two-zone hob, a microwave and under-counter fridge-freezer units, from where you can rustle up everything from hearty breakfasts to gourmet dinners. To the bow there is a twin scissor-berth with a granite-clad en-suite bathroom, while located amidship there is a full-beam owner’s stateroom with mullioned hull windows, opening portholes, a queen-sized bed, hanging closets, a side sofa, plenty of timber cabinetry and an en-suite with a waterfall shower.
Top speeds of around 38 knots ensure that the Sunseeker Portofino 48 really outpaces the pack, and this is a yacht that can be fitted with twin or even triple Volvo Penta IPS 600 pod-drives. At the lower speed of 10 knots this yacht has a range of 300 nautical miles, while a deep-V hull with a fine entry proves superbly balanced even at higher speeds.
