The Princess V45 is a 47-foot sport motoryacht with cruising potential that was launched to the public in 2007 and is still in production today. Designed in collaboration with Princess Yacht’s American partners Viking, the V45 is a hardtop model with a retractable sunroof on the cockpit and, despite its compact size, offers a wealth of entertaining space.
The yacht’s free-flowing, single-level main deck features a foredeck with room for a modular quad-shaped sunpad, walk-around side-decks enclosed by stainless steel guardrails, and a nifty, full-beam bathing platform at the transom. A few teak-lined steps up from this platform and you will find an outdoor aft deck that is dominated by a magnificent four-seater sunpad on which to soak up the summer sun. The sunpad is cleverly configured to hide a spacious tender garage, large enough to fit a Williams Tender Jet or your choice of modern water toy. The aft-deck shifts seamlessly toward an open-plan salon, that, with a retractable sunroof, large angular side windows and an open aspect at the rear, can feel like a genuinely alfresco space on warmer days. Here guests will discover a comfortable, wrap-around leather sofa to starboard, positioned around a teak or fiberglass dining table, as well as a further, J-shaped sofa to port. Full wet-bar facilities and an electric barbecue griddle make this salon the ideal place from which to host parties, grill your catch and mix up martinis.
The main deck helm station boasts superb visibility across the bow from a pair of leather captain’s chairs, while nautical controls include Raymarine plotter, autopilot and depthsounder, Plastimo offshore compass, Simrad VHF, bow thrusters and power-assisted steering.
Below deck there is a surprising amount of space for a vessel of this size, with a full-beam galley and dining space including a large teak dining table surrounded by a U-shaped sofa, and a kitchen lined in glazed teak with faux-marble counter, induction hob and combination microwave. The generous use of port-hole windows on this lower deck ensures that the space never feels cramped or dark, and the use of adjustable inset and wall-lamp lighting allows for a sedate and cosy atmosphere. The yacht’s two en suite cabins mean that there is enough room aboard this vessel for up to four overnight guests, with the full-beam, V-berth to the bow the star of the show. This restrained yet luxurious stateroom is lit from above by use of a skylight, and fits in a large double-bed, side cabinets and plenty of hidden storage.
Performance-wise the Princess V45 is as sporty as it looks, with twin Volvo Penta D6 stern-drive engines offering cruising speeds in the range of 25 knots and top speeds of over 31 knots. This yacht is also economical to run, with fuel usage found to be some 30% more efficient than comparably sized yachts. A GRP fibreglass monohull designed by Bernard Olesinski and tested out on the tricky waters of the English Channel, not far from the Princess shipyard in Plymouth, mean that this is a sports yacht with true blue-water capabilities.
