An 88-foot luxury flybridge pocket superyacht of style and distinction, the Princess 88 Flybridge, also not to be confused with the Y88 launched later on, premiered to the public in 2013 and remains in production today. The yacht builds on lessons learned from previous models to deliver dynamic new levels of innovative comfort, amenity and seaworthiness.
The starboard side of this vessel has been subject to major design interventions to revolutionise deck space. The side deck has been opened up amidship to provide for a folding, teak-lined balcony from which to enjoy breakfasts or aperitifs, and is directly accessible from the cockpit salon thanks to sliding glass doors built into the side of the superstructure. One level below and the amount of natural light below-deck is hugely increased thanks to the use of a two panoramic, single-pane starboard windows, one of them with widescreen dimensions.
Attention to detail on the rest of the yacht is just as impressive. The teak-lined hardtop flybridge boasts a central helm station flanked by two L-shaped sofas with views to the bow, along with a U-shaped dining area opposite an Avonite wetbar with icemaker and barbecue. To the rear there is space for sunloungers or dinghy storage and a three-pad sunbed, with the option of a jacuzzi spa pool for alfresco bathing. One level down and you will find a walk-through seating area on the foredeck with two Portuguese bridge sofas and a modular Movida sunpad with headrests. To the rear a semi-sheltered aft-deck boasts a transom sofa with a teak coffee table, wetbar console and steps down to an elongated, full-beam swimming deck, the perfect platform from which to dive into the sea.
An interior cockpit almost 20 feet wide benefits from an open plan salon with sprawling sofas, a centrepiece coffee table, formal dining settings for up to 8 as well as wall, floor and cabinetry finishes in lacquered walnut, oak, cherry and leather. Expansive, curving windows across the cockpit, as well as triple-sliding glass doors to aft with wafer-thin stainless-steel trim provide plenty of light, while an etched wood or transparent glazed partition wall separates the salon the galley kitchen. Here there are worktops in marble or granite, a convection oven, four-ring ceramic hob, full-size fridge, dishwasher and an extractor fan to keep the internal living space feeling fresh. Further seating is provided up in the helm station, from where you can pilot your Princess 88 MY with the latest in electronic navigational equipment, and make use of agility-boosting features such as trim-tabs, bow thrusters and hydraulic steering.
Stepping below-deck there is the option for two up 5 double berths, though most owners will opt for the popular 4 berth option in order to create a full-beam, amidship master stateroom. In this lavish bedroom you will find a marble-lined ensuite with walk-in shower, a pair of leather chairs, a workstation or vanity desk and a king-sized island bed upholstered in the finest materials sourced via LVMH. Three other ensuite guest rooms, including a spacious V-berth to bow, provide for a total overnight occupancy of 8, while crew quarters for three, including a galley dinette, are accessible via a transom door.
Twin Caterpillar C32A engines or twin MTU 2000 M93 engines can power this yacht to top speeds in the range of 30 knots, while at cruising speeds of 10 knots the Princess 88 MY can clock in some 2,000 nautical miles. A hybrid deep-V hull in resin-infused fiberglass, and designed by industry legend Bernard Olesinski, was tested extensively on the turbulent waters of the English Channel prior to launch, making this a great yacht for genuine blue-water cruising.
