The Princess 85 is an 85-foot flybridge motoryacht first introduced in 2008 that remains in production today. Marketed as a luxury cruiser with the space and amenities of a sleek superyacht, the Princess 85 has proved to be one of the most popular vessels ever launched by the Plymouth, England-based builder.
As with other exterior deck spaces, the open-top flybridge benefits from a stylish and durable washed teak floor as well as weatherproof furnishings. Two U-shaped sofas offer plenty of room for outdoor socializing, while a wet bar and an electric barbecue griddle mean you do not need to miss out on the fun when grilling shrimp or mixing martinis for your guests. An upstairs helm station with two leather piloting seats means you can even steer your vessel from this elevated position while entertaining. There is extra space on the flybridge for an optional jacuzzi spa pool, while the rear of the flybridge can be used for convenient dinghy storage when on the move.
In many yachts of this size the area towards the bow is often an afterthought, but not here. The foredeck boasts a double Movida sunpad with headrests, a Portuguese bridge fitted sofa with a collapsing Bimini top and a teak coffee table for a superb outdoor lounge space drenched in the sun. Side decks enclosed with stainless-steel guardrails lead back towards a spacious aft deck and double-length hydraulic swimming platform. The aft deck benefits from a degree of shelter, and boasts a U-shaped transom sofa, a curved fiberglass wet bar and dining space for starlit evening meals.
The refined and sedate interior benefits from superb attention to detail with only the finest materials deployed. Lavishly finished walls, floors and joinery come in a choice of light oak, rich cherry or dark walnut in satin or gloss tones, while carpeting in autumn brown or pale ivory can be sourced from Princess Yachts’s illustrious parent company LVMH. An elegant drawing room features three Appleton leather sofas arranged around a centrepiece coffee table, while a formal dining space can seat up to 8 for luxurious and decadent meals. The salon flows seamlessly into an open-plan galley kitchen with Emparador dark marble or sparkling granite worktops and floors, kitted out with a range of cooking instruments including hobs, convection oven and combination microwave. The cockpit retains a light and breezy atmosphere due to the use of angular, blade-like windows to port and starboard, while at the rear a set of triple-glazed sliding doors provide full-deck views.
The exquisite level of comfort continues below-deck, where four guest cabins and crew space provides overnight accommodation for up to 11. The full-beam, below-helm master stateroom includes a king-sized bed, four-panelled mullioned windows to port and starboard, as well as office space and a loveseat. The VIP stateroom to bow, meanwhile, is large enough for a walk-in closet and boasts a wide skylight for access to natural light. En-suite bathrooms are lined with Venetian mosaics and feature walk-in waterfall showers or jacuzzi-style tubs, while heated marble floors can be fitted as optional.
This yacht comes equipped with either twin MTU M93 or Caterpillar C32A engines for top speeds that reach up to 30 knots. With a fuel tank of 1850 gallons the Princess 85 can traverse 650 nautical miles at comfortable cruising speeds of 21 knots, more than enough to explore the islands of the Mediterranean or Caribbean. Agility is provided with the use of dual hydraulic bow thrusters, while prop prockets and a relatively shallow draft decrease drag. The yacht is also equipped with the latest in navigational electronics, including a full Furuno brand package and Raymarine thermal imaging cameras. Advocates of sustainability, meanwhile, will be pleased to discover that the Princess 85 has been awarded RINA Green Plus certification for environmentally friendly performance while at sea.
