Launched to the public in 2003 and still in production today, the Princess 42 is a 44-foot luxury motor yacht with a sleek European design. The yacht more than makes up for its limited length with a towering, open-air flybridge, cleverly arranged space below-deck and relaxation areas to both bow and aft, making this a superb option for weekend cruising.
This yacht’s spacious flybridge is its crowning glory, boasting all the al-fresco facilities you need to host a swish party, including barbecue grill, icemaker and fridge. A fitted, U-shaped sofa with an extending teak table provides plenty of space to relax, perhaps while you listen to your favourite tunes, crisply amplified by the flybridge’s outdoor Bose loudspeakers. The flybridge also benefits from a tinted windshield to keep you dry from any spray you might encounter while out cruising, and a secondary helm station so that you can pilot your vessel without missing out on any of the fun. Should you encounter any rainy conditions the flybridge comes with a Bimini top for an extra level of protection from the elements.
Teak-lined steps lead you down to the sheltered aft-deck which comes with a sofa to transom and room for a pair of chairs and a coffee table. Take a few further steps down and you will find a full-beam swimming platform from which to begin your aquatic adventures. Turning back there is walk-around access to port and starboard, enclosed by stainless steel guard-rails, leading to a foredeck that is fitted with a large modular sunpad.
Interior spaces are finished in polished teak and glossy Serotina cherrywood for a sedate feel, while furnishings across the decks are upholstered in plush and durable Ultramarine leather and beige Movida fabric. The salon and cockpit are large enough for a side sofa and a U-shaped sofa that surrounds a dining table with room for up to 5 guests. In the below-deck galley an Avonite countertop holds in place full kitchen facilities including a ceramic electric hob and combination microwave, perfect for assembling cooked breakfasts. Accommodation is spacious for a craft of this length, with a generously sized double-berth situated under the helm station, and a master v-berth at the bow that is large enough to fit a double-sized bed. Inset lighting, porthole windows and a skylight keep these below-deck spaces well-lit with plenty of artificial and natural light.
The Princess 42 is built for speed, with twin Volvo Penta or Caterpillar C7 engines providing full-throttle speeds of up to 32 knots. The yacht’s compact size ensures that it is also nimble on the water, and it benefits from bow-thrusters, trim-tabs and a hydraulic steering system for increased responsiveness when making your way into tricky cove and marina settings. Owner-operators can safely captain their yacht with confidence thanks to Raymarine navigational equipment including an E125 Chartplotter, HD radar and night-vision camera. Built in the United Kingdom, the Princess 42 has been sold in the United States since 2011, and unlike yachts from some other overseas brands, this one complies with all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and is certified by the NMMA.
