The Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht is a 74-foot luxury cruising yacht with a flybridge that was produced by North Carolina’s premier boat-building firm Hatteras between 2015 and 2018. Blending a sleek European style and rugged seaworthiness with a North American level of comfort and amenity, this Hatteras was garlanded with the title for “Best of the Best” at the 2016 Robb Report Awards. Based on the same basic design and hull-shape as the 100 RPH, the 70 Motor Yacht offers luxury, finesse and a superb cruising experience for the whole family on a more manageable scale.
The flybridge on this model comes as either an open deck with a hard-top canopy or with an enclosed cockpit for all-weather elevated piloting. Either way, you can expect water-proofed teak flooring, a marble-topped walk-in wet-bar with an icemaker, comfortable sofas and an al-fresco space to the rear that can be used as a sunlounge or fitted with a MarQuipt hydraulic davit for tender storage. The helm is situated on the bridge across all 70 Motor Yacht versions, and features Pompano helm chairs, a CAT Three60 joystick, Garmin multi-function displays, ABT bow thruster controls, digital engine displays, CCTV feedback, VHF radio and a stainless-steel steering wheel.
A decadent foredeck lounge out by the bow impresses with a triple sunpad built into the superstructure that is flanked by a pair of curved chaise-longues and a champagne cooler with cup holders. To the stern, meanwhile, there is a transom sofa with a dining table in the aft cockpit, where side steps lead down to a hydraulic swimming platform.
This yacht’s main deck salon is unusually light and airy thanks to the Hatteras focus on delivering an unparalleled sense of space. Though you will of course find the ubiquitous sliding glass doors to the rear and panoramic side glazing, this yacht also comes with a double-height forward atrium with elevated glazing that floods the main deck with natural light. You can expect surfaces in whitened oak or glossy walnut in here, while sculpted fixtures in stainless steel and furnishings in authentic leather offer a deluxe feel. An L-shaped sofa to the rear is joined by an armchair and an ottoman that sit across from the yacht’s home entertainment system and an enclosed day-head. Further forward there is a country kitchen with a U-shaped dining sofa, where you will find marble or granite work surfaces, a four zone Miele hob and oven, Sub-Zero fridge units and a skipper’s door to the side deck.
There is space for up to eight overnight guests on the lower deck, cross a pair of en-suite double staterooms, a port-side twin and an amidship owner’s stateroom with full-beam dimensions, a walk-in closet, a king-sized bed, a vanity station, cushioned wall panels and horizontally mullioned windows.
A pair of 1800MHP MTU 12V diesel engines promote top speeds in the range of 28 knots, though should you opt for twin CAT C32A 1900MHP engines than the full-throttle speed rises to 30 knots. An efficient vessel in bluewater conditions, the Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht has a range of around 550 nautical miles while traversing the seas at the more leisurely pace of 11 knots. An optional Seakeeper or ABT TRACStar Stabilizer keeps this craft balanced while at rest, while a resin-infused hull offers plenty of natural stability on the move.
