The Ferretti 850 is an 85-foot luxury motor yacht with a flybridge that was launched by the iconic Italian yacht-building firm Ferretti in 2017. Crafted in collaboration with Italian design house Zuccon International, this sleek vessel’s clean lines and extensive glazing shimmer like a faceted jewel in the summer sun, while minimalist living spaces demonstrate the Italian flair for cool and contemporary living.
As broad as a Tuscan terrace, the elegant flybridge on the 850 comes with a Vulcan Grey radar arch and canopy with a built-in crystal-cut sunroof for optional shelter from the sun, and masses of space in which to recline in the lap of sheer luxury. To the rear there is room for a sun lounge with views across the stern, while amidship you will find a sprawling U-shaped sofa, a bespoke breakfast table and space for an optional hot tub. At the front of the bridge there is a walk-in wet-bar with marbled surfaces, an ice-chipper and a grill, along with the set of upper helm controls. The Ferretti Yachts designers most definitely took their exterior entertainment areas seriously.
One level down and you will discover a secluded lounge out on the foredeck, where a Portuguese Bridge sofa sits across from a forward sunpad where a trio of friends can enjoy marina-facing views. There is a lavish transom sofa in the aft cockpit, hugging a breakfast table with room for up to six diners. Side steps lead down to a full-beam, teak-lined hydraulic swimming platform and an innovative floating garage with a door that transforms into a beach club level, a novel feature that won the prize for “Innovative Design Solution” at the Amsterdam Boat Builder Awards held in 2016.
A symphony of brushed metal, lacquered oak, frosted glass, bronze-effect accents and stainless-steel fixtures awaits as you glide through sliding glass doors and into the main deck salon. This ultra-modern living space benefits from mullioned side windows with cinema-screen dimensions that look out across cutaway bulwarks and can be fitted with furnishings from the likes of Minotti or Zimmer+Rohde. Plenty of seating, low-slung cabinetry, ottomans and coffee tables occupy the rear half of the salon, while towards the front there is a formal dining table for up to eight. While many Ferretti yachts in recent years have opted for North American-style open galleys, the 850 sticks with the traditional European layout and encloses the fully-equipped, Ernestomeda-designed kitchen in a private space towards the front of the main deck with direct access to lower-deck crew space for up to three. This opens up room on a mezzanine level for a raised pilothouse, where captains will enjoy utilizing three Simrad touch-screen panels, thruster controls, an optional joystick, power-steering and superb views to chart their course.
Four lavish en-suite staterooms on the lower-deck impress with trapezoidal windows, marbled surfaces, plush carpeting, mirrored panels and metallic accents throughout for an elegant feel that borders on the decadent. A pair of double rooms and a twin occupy the amidship positions down here, while a full-beam owner’s stateroom to aft features a side sofa or work desk, full-height closets and a bathroom with a waterfall shower and a pair of stone-clad sinks.
Twin MAN V-12 1900MHP V-drive diesel engines provide top speeds of 31 knots at half loads, while at cruising speeds of around 11 knots you should expect a range of well over 1,000 nautical miles. A pair of Seakeeper 9 stabilizers keep this yacht balanced while out in choppy waters, while a proprietary GRP hull proves to be both efficient and agile on the move.
