The Absolute 72 Fly is a 70-foot luxury motor yacht with a flybridge that was launched by the award-winning Italian yacht-building brand Absolute in 2012. A futuristic profile with plenty of sharp edges, jagged glazing and sleek lines hides hand-crafted living spaces with a sedate feel and a deluxe finish, while powerful Penta engines offer a swift and assertive ride. The flagship of the Absolute flybridge range, the 72 Fly won the titles for ‘Best Layout’ and ‘Most Innovative Design’ at the 2012 Cannes Boat Show.

Golden, waterproofed teak covers just about every square inch of the flybridge and main-deck exterior, setting the scene for a range of contemporary outdoor living spaces that are drenched in sun. To the rear of the al-fresco bridge there is space for a set of sun-loungers, while a sculptural radar arch features both an overhead shower and an electric Bimini roof. Further forward there is a walk-in wet-bar with an ice-chipper, two grills, a sink, chilled storage, masses of storage space for glassware and a tempered glass and steel serving bar. Across from this there is a starboard seating lounge with a U-shaped dining sofa with a double-width table, a forward loveseat, a cocoon-style sunpad and, of course, an upper helm station. One level down you will discover a Portuguese bridge-sofa and a forward daybed down on the foredeck, with a transom sofa and a breakfast table located in the entirely sheltered cockpit. Side steps at the stern lead down to a bulky, full-beam, timber-lined bathing platform that can be lowered into the water at the touch of a button and access to crew quarters for two.
This is a yacht that hides its sheer bulk well from profile, yet you get a sense of its cavernous dimensions when stepping into the main-deck salon through rear sliding glass doors. Framed by seemingly never-ending mullion windows, lit by illuminated block ceiling panels, lined in golden and pale oak, with steel and bronze-effect accents abounding, this vast space hosts a trio of sofas and an armchair surrounding a bespoke coffee table. Angled bookshelves, curved and backlit display cabinets and a bevel-edged dining table for eight can also be found in here, before you come to a partially enclosed galley to port. This walk-in kitchen features pink or pale marble work surfaces, a huge American-style fridge with an in-built wine cooler, a stainless-steel sink, a four-zone hob, a convection oven and more. Up front there is a trio of Garmin or Raymarine multi-function display screens sitting within a modern helm station that looks like something out of a cruise ship, and you will also find thruster controls, a Penta docking joystick, VHF radio, a leather-clad steering wheel and a pair of leather piloting seats up here.
Four cabins on the lower-deck, three of them with en-suite facilities, provide voluminous rest space for up to eight overnight guests, though some owners choose to exchange one of the amidship twins for a lower office. A VIP double to the bow features square mullions, a double island bed, full-height closets and a lavish bathroom, while the owner’s stateroom is located further aft. This full-beam cabin features a king-sized bed, a work-desk, vertical mullioned windows, a side chaise, a walk-in dressing room and a bathroom lined in marble or granite with two sinks and a timber-clad shower stall that feels more like a Scandinavian sauna.
Twin 900MHP Volvo Penta D13 IPS1200 pod-drive diesel engines fire the Absolute 72 Fly to full-throttle speeds reaching 31 knots, with ultra-smooth cruising speeds clocking in at around 24 knots. Should you wish to take it easy and tour the coast for days on end then this yacht enjoys a range of over 880 nautical miles at a leisurely 9 knot pace.
