The Sanlorenzo SD118 is a breathtaking 117-foot semi-displacement luxury superyacht first launched by Italian yacht firm Sanlorenzo in 2021. Taking stylistic cues from the glamorous ocean liners of the 1930s, the SD118 made waves at the Cannes Yachting Festival for its immense volumes, innovative use of asymmetric design, long-range ability, and stunning interiors. For those looking for a romantic palace on the water that performs like a champion, the SD118 is a clear choice.
While some large yachts look clunky, the SD118 is light and agile, a feat accomplished by exterior designer Bernardo Zuccon, the son of the founders of the Zuccon International Project. Three decks, including a skylounge, offer unlimited possibilities for entertainment and relaxation while you cover long-range distances, thanks to a 32,000-liter fuel capacity and a range of 3,000 nautical miles at 11 knots.
The outdoor areas aboard this yacht are chic, spacious, and convivial. At anchor, wings to port and starboard of the generous swim platform open out to create a three-sided beach club, allowing ample space for diving and seabathing. A large transom garage operates hydraulically, enabling easy launching of water toys and tender. Up two staircases on either side of the garage, the aft cockpit features freestanding furniture, enabling owners to personalize the space with settees, lounges and dining areas. Sheltered by the upper deck overhang, the aft cockpit invites natural light and sea air while protecting guests from the rain or the glare of the sun.
Wide sliding glass doors provide entry to the sedate salon, decorated with comfortable, low-profile furniture that encourages guests and owners to catch up and mingle freely. An elegant, curved staircase leads to the upper and lower decks, while a discreet hallway runs towards a more formal dining room with seating for 10. Beyond this, owners will find a forward day head and an enormous high-spec galley with plenty of pantry and storage space for long-haul journeys.
Situated forward on the main deck, the full-beam owner’s suite is plush, quiet, and private, with all the amenities – and more – of home. A walkaround king-sized bed beneath a wide window benefits from a contemporary headboard and low-profile but accessible end tables on either side. Opposite is a comfortable lounge with modernist touches like a curvy coffee table and playful but sophisticated loveseats. Nearby is large and meditative office space beneath yet another large window. A stunning en suite bathroom carries through the neutral from the main room. This suite also enjoys private access to the forepeak, allowing owners to enjoy a few stolen moments among the port and starboard lounges away from their guests.
To get your party started, however, the upper deck is the place to be. Replete with ample seating and dining spaces on the aft deck, guests can enjoy the ultimate al fresco meal, or retreat to the luxe skylounge for cocktails. More seating can be found on the foredeck here, ideal for sunbathing. This deck is also where the large wheelhouse lies, complete with state-of-the-art navigation equipment and a robust windshield. A starboard staircase leads to the fly deck, which features multiple sunbeds aft and a mammoth sunpad fore. Between them lies a stylish bar cabinet, sink, and fridge to shake – or stir – up a midday martini.
When the stars come out and the music starts to fade, guests may retire to the lower deck, where they will be comfortably accommodated across four cabins. Aft are two VIP cabins, each with big hull windows and large en suites. Amidships are two further en suite cabins which, although somewhat smaller than the VIP suites, are nonetheless well-appointed and grand. The forward section, separate from the main accommodation, is given over to the crew quarters, which feature a dedicated en suite captain’s cabin and two other crew cabins with two bunks and en suites (with shower, sink, and toilet) each. A dinette is found to starboard of the captain’s cabin, with a laundry room forward.
The SD118 offers two engine options, from two 1,400hp MAN V12s to dual 1,622hp CAT C32 engines. Depending on your choice, the top rate of speed aboard this yacht is 18-19 knots, with a cruising speed of 13-14 knots and an economical speed of 11 knots.
