The Sabre 34 Express is a 34-foot Downeast-style motoryacht first launched by Maine-based yacht-building icon Sabre Yachts in 2006. This vintage model possesses the much sought-after heritage looks that have become a Sabre signature down the years, with a traditional form inspired by the New England lobster boats of old. Sheer lines, teak brightwork, a custom paintjob and a solid presence on the water are joined by a deluxe, hand-crafted finish, a generously proportioned cockpit and a classic approach to comfortable, homespun interiors that deliver elegance in spades. No mere museum piece, the 34 Express retains its unique appeal on the used market thanks to its top-notch build-quality, cutting-edge propulsion methods and rugged hull.
There’s plenty of space to cast a line out on the foredeck, where storage lockers for lines or fenders and high guardrails offer a sense of purpose and security. The sumptuous teak-lined side-decks extend back to a 50-square-foot cockpit broad enough to haul aboard a few lobster pots but adapted to a more leisurely pace of life. A flip-down transom sofa and a mezzanine sofa, both in sophisticated striped upholstery, occupy the bulk of the space back here, with extra room provided for an outdoor wet-bar. There’s also a set of integrated rod-holders and a transom gate that leads out to a full-beam swim platform in timber positioned to stern.
Step up into the main-deck salon to discover a bright and breezy space lined in authentic timber with 360-degrees of glazing and a chunky overhead skylight. There’s an open galley kitchen to starboard that features Corian countertops, a two-zone Eurokera stovetop, a Dometic microwave oven, a slide-out cooler and a steel sink. To port there is an L-shaped sofa that hugs a bespoke dining table, while up front there is a Stidd helm seat facing a helm station with a pair of Raymarine E120 MFD screens with bundled instrumentation, a mahogany-lined steering wheel with Seastar hydraulics, Side Power bow thruster controls, Lectrotab trim-tab switches, a Ritchie compass, hand-held VHF radio, autopilot, optional Penta joystick handling and room for your additional extras.
Head below decks to discover a sedate retreat with grain-matched, varnished cherrywood surrounds, a teak-and-holly sole, Ultraleather furnishings and opening porthole windows. Down here there is an L-shaped sofa and a coffee-table, masses of louvred storage units, a cedar-lined locker and a double island bed positioned up by the bow for two overnight guests. Also available on this level is a main head with a moulded sink, a flush toilet and a dedicated shower stall.
The Sabre 34 Express is powered by a pair of 310HP Yanmar 6LPA diesel engines as standard, though you can choose to upgrade to twin 380HP Yanmar inboards or even a twin-set of 370HP Volvo Penta D6 diesels for greater power at the top-end. Expect speeds to hit 33 knots when picking the premium options, with solid cruising in the mid-20 knot range. An efficient and stable hull pairs well with a 250-gallon fuel tank to promote weekend-long adventures on the open water.
