The Riviera 58 Open Flybridge is a heart-racing 63.4-foot luxury yacht first released by renowned Australian yacht builder in 2003. Then the flagship of Riviera’s fleet, the 58 received high praise for its five-star appointments and amenities. Although it was in production for three years, this popular model sold 32 hulls before it yielded to the new 60 Enclosed Flybridge. Designed by the legendary Frank Mulder, the 58 is not only elegant but efficient, with propeller tunnels and shafts that deliver a smooth, powerful ride.
The convivial flybridge is naturally one of the main attractions of this boat, with a stately helm and well-appointed social zones that will delight captain and guest alike. The aft helm is a mariner’s dream, with two Pompanette Platinum chairs and a console that boasts room for three 15-inch displays. For entertainment, look no further than the forward lounge, which features a U-shaped sofa wrapped around a hi-lo table, long facing settee, and a nearby wet bar.
A ladder leads down to the aft cockpit, which is an angler’s delight. The coaming corners boast hawse holes that are not only hospitable to fishing lines, but make it easy to access a cleat. The entrance to the salon is a stunning glass door accompanied by an enormous, tinted glass window to port. The salon itself is elegant but laid back, with pale upholstery and rich, bright timber joinery. Large side windows frame two serene sitting areas: a J-shaped lounge to port and a U-shaped dinette. Users can relax and catch up on their favorite series thanks to the standard retractable 40-inch flatscreen TV or play their favorite tunes on the Bose sound system. To really get the party started, there is a convenient wet bar nearby with a fridge and icemaker, as well as storage for glassware.
To port of the dinette is a generous galley. Open to the rest of the salon, you can cook up a succulent meal without ignoring the other guests. Equipped with a three-zone cooktop, drawer refrigerator and freezer, a convection microwave oven, and a roomy sink. Storage and workspace can be found throughout, thanks to solid surface countertops and cabinets.
Just past the galley and down a few short steps lies the beautifully-appointed accommodation, which is split across four staterooms. The owner’s suite, a spacious and inviting queen cabin, offers all the comforts of home: natural light from the large side window, nightstands on each side of the bed, a 19-inch television, and plenty of hanging and cupboard storage. This lovely room enjoys a private en suite bathroom with a porcelain basin, toilet, and walk-in shower receptacle. The VIP suite, found fully forward, features almost identical amenities to the owner’s suite, including a queen-sized bed and en suite bathroom.
To starboard are two further guest rooms. The first is a cleverly designed cabin that manages to fit two bunk beds above a washer/dryer, perfect as a crew cabin or a berth for unexpected guests. A larger room with two bunks can be found forward, on the other side of the shared day head. Overhead hatches throughout provide welcome light and fresh air in every cabin.
Standard power for this boat was originally provided by two MTU turbo diesel engines with 900HP apiece, with an option for twin 1400HP Caterpillars for a more vigorous performance.
