The Riviera 56 Open is a 63-foot convertible sportfishing yacht that was produced by Australia’s premier yacht-building brand Riviera between the years of 2008 and 2011. Combining plenty of raw power, heavy-duty fishing amenities and stylish living spaces, this multi-purpose cruiser boasts a look that is both sporty and elegant, with plenty of aerodynamic curves and clean lines. An extended foredeck, an open-air bridge and a dedicated fishing cockpit will please lovers of the outdoors, while laid-back, high-quality accommodation makes this a great option for families. Still a must-have on the used and charter markets to this day, Riviera sold 7 of these models across the production run.
The bridge is covered by a floating hard-top and remains open at the sides for a strong connection with the elements. You will find a pair of leather-lined Pompanette helm seats up here facing a flip-up helm station with power-assisted Teleflex steering, electronic throttles, New Age QL trim-tab switches, Furuno NavNet GPS, Side Power bow thruster controls, hand-held VHF, CCTV feedback, a mounted compass and a pair of Raymarine E120 display monitors. Also on offer up here is a swish upper lounge with U-shaped seating lined in marine-grade upholstery, a drinks table with integrated cup-holders and a wet bar. Lower the table into place, cover it with a filler cushion and this lounge turns into one sprawling daybed ideal for soaking up the views.
Down on the foredeck there is room for a vast sunpad or, thanks to a 400KG davit, it can be used for tender storage and lifting. Heading into the fishing cockpit, a teak-lined and self-draining space big enough for a team of tournament pros, you will find all the fishing equipment needed to land record catches. An aquarium transom livewell and a pair of in-sole fish boxes are joined by a sports lazarette, flush rod holders, outrigger bases, rocket launchers, wash-down hoses, a tackle center and an icebox. A transom lift-gate leads out to a bathing platform, while families can also exchange some fishing gear for a cockpit wet-bar with a grill and relax at a mezzanine sofa.
Expansive side glazing welcomes guests into a sedate salon lined in high-gloss cherrywood with a faux-teak Amtico sole, leather furnishings and subdued mood lighting. Enjoy sophisticated at-sea evenings here relaxing on an L-shaped lounge sofa or at a U-shaped dining sofa, and prepare meals at a fully-equipped walk-in galley with stone countertops and a three-zone hob. There is room down on the lower deck for up to six overnight guests across three cabins, with each room boasting its own lavish en-suite facilities and a shower stall. A bunk berth to port sits across from a VIP double with a queen-sized bed and a timber-lined closet, while the owner’s stateroom sits by the bow and features a skylight, a queen-sized island bed and masses of hidden storage.
Standard power comes in the form of two 1015HP Caterpillar C18 turbo diesels, though upgrades to a pair of 1575HP MTU V2000 M92 or CAT C30 inboard engines are also available. Should you opt for the most powerful motors you can expect top speeds to max out at around 40 knots, while at a cruising speed of 31 knots you will ride this beautiful yacht for over 250 nautical miles before requiring a refuel. A Frank Mulder-designed fiberglass monohull was ocean-tested off the Australian coast and promotes an efficient ride, plenty of stability in the chase and a dry deck experience.
