The Riviera 51 Open is a 58-foot convertible motor yacht with a flybridge that was produced by Australia’s premier yacht builder Riviera Yachts between 2003 and 2014. A sleek and swept-back form with soft curves down to transom, wrap-around glazing and a cockpit that is all about serious fishing made this one of the most popular boats of its era, with over 180 of these models shipped to discerning clients the world over. Deluxe interiors, lavish sleeping quarters and plenty of opportunity to soak up the sun made this a great option for families, while critics loved this vessel’s rugged and swift performance out on the open waters, with the Australian Marine Industry titling this yacht “Cruiser of the Year” shortly after launch.
A floating hard-top supported by the thinnest of structural supports hovers over a flybridge that remains open at all sides for an atmospheric and maritime feel when guests are up here. The raised helm is set to aft for a classic fishing layout, and boasts Twin-Disc electric throttles, power-steering, VHF radio, a mounted compass and your choice of multi-function display screens with in-built features like autopilot or a fishfinder. There is a secluded lounge ahead of the helm comprising a U-shaped sofa with a table that can be lowered to turn this space into one cozy daybed.
On the main deck there is space to fit some sunpads out on the foredeck, while this area can also be used as a casting platform. Tournament fishing will be experienced in the self-draining, teak-lined aft-cockpit, where you can expect mounted rocket launchers, flush rod holders, a transom lift-gate leading to a swim platform, space for a fighting chair, a backlit transom livewell, a bait-prep station or a mezzanine sofa, in-sole fish-boxes and sports lockers built into the gunwale.
Picture-frame side glazing, gloss-finished cherrywood or teak surrounds, mood lighting and cream-toned carpeting welcome you into a breezy main-deck salon. To port there is a plush L-shaped sofa with cushioned backrests that surrounds a bespoke, grain-matched timber coffee table and a bulkhead cabinet, while to starboard there is a hand-crafted set of storage units, a wine-cooler and a dining sofa with a table. The galley sits on a mezzanine level between the main and lower-decks, and benefits from a striped teak and holly sole, Corian countertops, a three-zone hob, a vast sink, chilled storage, an oven and plenty of secure storage.
Up to six overnight guests will enjoy a peaceful night of sleep on the sedate lower-deck, where three staterooms and two en-suites provide plenty of room to stretch out and relax. A bunk berth to port and a VIP double stateroom to the bow share a bathroom with a shower cubicle, while a master stateroom to starboard features a timber-lined closet, a queen-sized bed and a mosaic-tile lined bathroom with a molded sink and a waterfall shower.
Twin 700HP Caterpillar C12 diesel engines were fitted as standard to a hull with prop-tunnels, while upgrades to 825HP MTU are also available. Expect top speeds of approximately 31 knots, while at a silky-smooth cruising speed of 22 knots you will be out on the water all weekend thanks to a 713 gallon fuel tank.
