The Riviera 4000 Offshore is a 44-foot express cruiser built by Australia’s premier yacht firm Riviera Yachts between 1997 and 2007. Available with a curved hood or as an entirely open-air boat, this super-sporty and ultra-sleek vessel boasts aerodynamic looks, a sharp entry and a stylish swept-back form. Blistering speeds, nimble agility and a rugged monohull deliver a thrilling ride, while a fine blend of sport-fishing zones and relaxation spaces give this boat plenty of crossover appeal. Winner of the prize for “Boat of the Year” at the 1998 Modern Boating awards, this watercraft was also a hit with discerning clients worldwide, with 244 models sold throughout the production run.
There is space aplenty on the foredeck to install a double-width sunpad and soak up the rays, or for keen anglers to cast a line, wait by the high guardrails and hope for a bite. For a more pro-active approach to fishing head into the vast aft cockpit, a self-draining space with a transom gate that leads out to a swimming platform that can also be used for tender storage. There are sports lockers back here for snorkelers or watersports enthusiasts, while fishers will make use of a transom livewell, in-sole fish-boxes, mounted rocket launchers, flush rod holders, chilled storage and room for a wet-bar with an ice-chipper, a sink and a grill. This vessel can even be outfitted with a tuna-tower for those who compete in the world of tournament fishing, while an optional mezzanine sofa provides much-required room for relaxation. Heading into the upper-cockpit you can expect an L-shaped sofa in marine-grade upholstery that surrounds a trapezoidal dining table perfect for drinks and meals, as well as a starboard side loveseat where a couple can curl up and get comfortable. Ahead of this is a twin-seat facing a helm station with space for the multi-function display screens of your choice, power-assisted steering, electric throttles, a compass, VHF radio and plenty of pleasingly old-school analogue instrumentation.
There’s plenty of vintage style on display across the lower deck, where lime-washed oak surrounds contrast against nautical-themed piped upholstery, plush carpeting, mirrored wall panels and lozenge-shaped opening portholes. Expect a sedate lower deck salon with a glossy timber dining table and a side-sofa along with an open galley boasting solid work surfaces and all the amenities needed to rustle up gourmet meals. The dining sofa can double as an extra sleeping space, though owners will likely head into the main stateroom at night to enjoy a skylight, a queen-sized bed, timber-lined lockers and quick access to the yacht’s main head, a classy affair with a sink, a VacuFlush toilet and an enclosed shower stall.
The 4000 Offshore from Riviera Yachts is powered by twin diesel shaft-drives, with available engines ranging from a pair of Cummins 315HP or 430HP motors through to 435HP Caterpillar 3208TA turbo engines. You can expect top speeds of up to 34 knots with the most powerful set and a 25-knot cruising speed that will keep you exploring all weekend long thanks to a 409-gallon fuel tank. The deep-V monohull, meanwhile, has been crafted from GRP and features a 17-degree transom deadrise for an assertive approach to handling those coastal swells.
