The Riviera 40 Open Flybridge (also known as the 40 Convertible) is a critically lauded 41-foot open flybridge yacht built by Riviera Yachts, Australia’s leading yacht firm, from 2000 to 2008. This beauty, sleeker and slicker than its predecessors, ushered in the new millennium for the brand, and continues to impress over two decades later. For those looking for a timeless yacht suited to onboard living and adventure, look no further.
This boat’s stunning outdoor areas are designed for fishing and entertaining. Keen anglers will appreciate the in-sole fishbox, tackle station with a sink and chill box/freezer, optional transom livewell, and space to install a fighting chair. A ladder to port leads to the flybridge, an ideal spot to converse with the captain, or simply admire the views beneath Riviera’s signature hardtop. The helm is situated aft, a placement conducive to anglers, while companion seating and bench seats are sure to attract lounge lizards and social butterflies. A sink unit with space for a fridge encourages entertaining guests.
The interiors are furnished with glossy teak joinery and plush leather upholstery, from the convivial salon to the forward owner’s suite. When this yacht was still in production, owners could opt for a lower helm in addition to the flybridge, or keep the standard - and expansive - salon layout. Upon entering, users are greeted by an L-shaped lounge and L-shaped dinette to port and starboard respectively. The forward portside step-down galley is fully equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave/convection oven, and tons of storage. An optional lower helm was also offered during the 40’s production run, an addition that slightly altered the salon configuration but never at the expense of the standard amenities.
Although this yacht isn’t the largest in Riviera’s fleet, it sleeps up to 7 people - perfect for large families or weekends with friends. Two cabins can be found forward, both of which are exceptionally comfortable and well-appointed. The owner’s suite features a walkaround queen-sized bed with two hanging lockers on either side and a wardrobe. The guest cabin boasts three berths and a wardrobe. For unexpected guests, the salon dinette converts into an additional berth.
The 40 Open Flybridge was equipped with two standard 430 Cummins engines, but owners could also opt for twin Cummins engines with a combined 1070HP. With standard power, skippers can expect max speeds of 30 knots.
