The Horizon 52 Tournament is a 52-foot luxury sportfishing yacht that was launched by iconic Taiwan-based yacht-building firm Horizon in 2009. A departure from the norm for a company more typically associated with deluxe cruisers, this convertible-style fishing vessel delivers tournament-ready credentials, a supreme finish and family-friendly amenities in one stylish package. A flared bow, a rugged GRP hull, an optional Tuna tower and heavy-duty fishing equipment guarantee practicality, while lavish touches including teak brightwork, steel fixtures and timber-lined interiors offer comfort and style.
One level down from the dizzying heights of the tuna tower there is a bridge with a floating hard-top roof and a helm station. A pair of teak and leather Aritex helm seats face a dashboard with Raymarine MFD screens, an Edson power-steering wheel, VHF radio, Sleipner bow and stern thruster controls, QL trim-tab switches, a high-speed compass, Palm Beach-style throttles and fishing extras like a fish-finder and depth-sounder. Ahead of the helm there is a forward lounge with two upholstered sofas, great views and a pull out refrigerator with an integrated ice-box.
There’s plenty of room to soak up the rays or cast a line from the foredeck, but it’s in the cockpit where this yacht excels. At 172-square foot in size, and lined in glossy teak, you’ll find everything needed to give you a competitive edge. Goodies back here include a vast transom livewell, Rupp Outriggers, underwater lighting, a transom lift-gate, Glendinning cable masters, padded coamings, a self-bailing sole, flush and mounted rod-holders, elevated rocket launchers and in-sole fish boxes. There’s room for a fighting chair, a tackle station and an ice-chipper, while if you want to use this space to entertain you can swap these out for a table, a mezzanine sofa and a wet-bar. There’s also a bathing platform to stern that can be used to help haul aboard your prize-winning catch or be used by the kids heading off for a swim.
A timber door welcomes guests into a sedate and traditional main-deck salon with a vaulted and upholstered ceiling, generous side glazing and a superb finish. Expect high-gloss cherrywood surrounds, a teak and holly sole and a pair of leather-clad lounge sofas in here. There’s also a walk-in galley on this level with Corian work surfaces, a microwave oven, a 4-zone stovetop, a steel sink and Vitrifrigo refrigeration options.
Head down to the lower-deck to encounter either a two-cabin or three-cabin layout, with spaces down here featuring plenty of authentic cherrywood and a peaceful vibe. You’ll first notice a starboard room that can be used as an office or as a bunk berth with two Pullmans, which shares a main head and shower with a VIP double stateroom. A master cabin on this level features a queen-sized bed, plenty of storage options and a dedicated en-suite with a shower stall.
Powered by a pair of 1000HP Caterpillar C18 shaft-drives, you can expect top speeds to hit 35 knots, while at a cruising speed of 25 knots, and thanks to a 1056 gallon fuel tank, you will enjoy chasing top-water tuna for days on end.
