The Freeman 42LR is a 42-foot sportfishing hybrid catamaran that was launched by the innovative South Carolina-based yacht-building firm Freeman Boatworks in 2017. Designed for long-distance fishing adventures, this model boasts up to 800 gallons of fuel storage, a patented dual-hulled approach to seafaring and a category-B certification for the very best in open-water exploration. Undeniably sporty in looks, the 42LR also impresses with best-in-class fishing amenities for a tournament-ready appeal, and a superb, rugged build-quality designed to withstand challenging coastal conditions.
You can attach a Tuna Tower to this model for elevated reconnaissance, or make use of the broad, 11-foot 9-inch beam and walk-around layout to hunt down your prey. There are two fishing zones on this deck, one up by the bow and a dedicated fishing cockpit to aft. Back in the cockpit you will find exceptional equipment like twin 50 gallon transom livewells with aquarium-style lids, tuna tubes, padded coamings, outrigger bases, in-sole fish boxes, two 510-quart coffin-boxes, 20 Gemlux Bluewater rod-holders, stainless steel cleats, a transom lift-gate and a tackle and bait-prep console. The self-draining deck, lined in non-slip DEKit material, also features a wash-down hose and room for a fighting chair or a set of rocket launchers, while you can exchange the bait-prep console for a set of stylish aft-facing seats with padded backrests. At the opposite end of the boat there’s a casting platform for a spot of angling, as well as further rod-holders, fish-boxes, plenty of room to move freely and a double-width chaise-longue in plush, hand-stitched upholstery where hardy fishers can catch their breath.
The central helm station is snugly fitted behind wrap-around glazing and underneath a floating T-Top for a dry and sheltered ride as you man the controls. There’s two rows of Llebroc seating in here for up to three companions and the pilot, with seats featuring comfortable cushions, arm-rests and pop-up bolsters. The cutting-edge dashboard features a trio of 16-inch Simrad touch-screen devices with bundled instrumentation, Teleflex Optimus power-steering, autopilot, joystick handling, a mounted compass, hand-held VHF, digital throttles and plenty of room for the fishing extras of your choice. Also on offer up here are four cup-holders and a JL Audio stereo system linked to a set of speakers dotted around the deck so that you can blast out the tunes as you cruise. A head compartment is also built into the helm console itself and accessed via a port-side door, perfect for freshening up.
Powered by four 400HP Mercury Verado outboard engines, you can expect to hit top speeds of almost 69 knots at full-throttle, while even your cruising speed of 52 knots will outpace many rival vessels running flat out. This model’s dual-hulled form with a rounded tunnel provides superb stability as you fish, while its ultra-efficient riding style will help to keep you out on the water for multi-day fishing trips with friends and family.
