The Freeman 33 is a 33-foot sportfishing hybrid catamaran that was launched in 2007 by South Carolina’s innovative yacht-building company Freeman Boatworks. The first vessel produced by Freeman, the 33 employs a cold-molded construction for its twin hulls, to create a balanced seafaring experience designed to withstand choppy waters and provide plenty of natural balance. A generous beam of 10-foot, 10-inches, meanwhile, is stocked full of tournament-ready fishing gear and room to relax, while next-generation helm tech and chunky outboards deliver a swift and efficient ride. No wonder then that music icon Jimmy Buffett chose a Freeman 33 for fishing with pals, coastal cruising, and maybe an at-sea margarita or two. Though no longer in production, the 33 remains highly-prized on the used and charter markets to this day.
Head into the foredeck to find a wide fishing space with flush rod-holders, an 800-quart coffin box, an ice-box and plenty of tackle storage options, from where you can cast a line and track your quarry all the way to stern thanks to a walk-around deck layout. Also on offer up here is a plush chaise-longue with a padded backrest where you can catch your breath after an epic fight with a feisty marlin. There’s even more room in the aft-cockpit, where sloping bulwarks and a transom lift-gate encourage easy access to the water. A self-bailing sole back here hosts goodies like in-deck fish-boxes, an optional 50-gallon livewell with aquarium-style lids, stainless steel cleats, sports lockers, Gemlux rod holders, rocket launchers, a wash-down hose and a vast Plano storage box, with options like a Teak Isle tackle and bait-prep station, tuna tubes, Rupp Top Gun outrigger bases and even a sedate mezzanine love-seat also available. Fancy a spot of night fishing? The 33 also comes with a set of impressive lights, including underwater LED lighting, for peaceful moon-lit angling.
The helm station sits deftly under a floating T-Top and behind wrap-around glazing for a dry and sheltered experience as you steer your watercraft. Seating for two comes with arm-rests, bolsters and the option to utilize this space as an all-action leaning post. The dashboard boasts the very latest in technology, including Simrad or Garmin touch-screen devices with bundled instrumentation, hand-held VHF, a high-speed mounted compass, Seastar power-assisted steering and digital throttles. There’s also enough room here for optional fishing extras, or even a stereo system linked to the vessel’s integrated speakers.
Powered by a pair of 300HP Suzuki outboards as standard with upgrades to twin Yamaha F350 V8 four-stroke outboards also on offer, you should expect top speeds of at least 53 knots, while at a 33 knot cruising pace you will have plenty left in the 350 gallon fuel tank for extended fishing trips out to tuna-rich feeding grounds.
