The Fairline Targa 38 is a stunning 38-foot luxury power cruiser first launched by renowned British yacht manufacturer Fairline Yachts at the 2006 London Boat Show. One of the most popular Fairline boats, the 38 was produced for nearly ten years, with an open convertible version released in 2013. In either form, the 38 is a stylish, speedy boat that remains a prime choice on the used and charter markets to this day.
An optional submersible swim platform, perfect for bathing in the sea, gives way to a starboard transom door that leads the way to an exquisite aft cockpit and salon. Here, ample space is given over to a portside C-shaped sofa that wraps around a massive dining table perfect for al fresco meals and cocktails with the top down. Forward, you’ll find another large seating area to port of the helm, allowing guests to interact with the captain as they lounge underway. Over on the foredeck, two large sunpads provide more than enough room for catching the sun’s rays.
The starboard helm features a comfortable captain’s chair – standing up or sitting down, this boat is a pilot’s dream, offering a smooth, fast ride. Equipped with a Garmin GMI 10 digital multifunction instrument system with color display, Garmin VHF 300i marine radio, high-speed magnetic compass, single lever throttle and gear controls for port and starboard engines, sterndrive trim controls, helm position indicator, this boat offers a complete package of instrumentation and navigation electronics. Thoughtful details like waterproof switches, cupholders, folding footrest, and a chart table and light take this spot to a new level.
Below deck, two well-appointed cabins are situated around a lower salon with a dinette and galley. The galley features a 2-burner gas cooktop, oven and grill, lacquered cupboard doors and overhead lockers, 130-liter refrigerator, sink, stowage for crockery, and an integrated waste bin. Unlike other boats in its class, the Targa 38’s galley is bright and cheerful, benefitting from panoramic hull windows that suffuse the space with natural light. The large dinette faces a 19-inch flatscreen TV, perfect for wiling away rainy days.
The forward owner’s suite is spacious and comfortable, with full-height standing headroom, an oversized double bed, a hatch to the foredeck, underbed storage, twin trinket lockers, wardrobes, and opening portholes for airflow. This cabin enjoys en suite access to the day head, which features a toilet, sink, and shower compartment. The amidships guest cabin features two twin beds with access to the day head – for extra accommodation, an optional single guest cabin can replace the second day head.
Fairline offered a range of engine options on this model, each from Volvo Penta. On the lower end of the spectrum, owners can opt for two 260hp Volvo Penta D4s, which top out at a respectable 33 knots. For those who want top-end speeds, two 400hp Volvo Penta D6 engines reach max speeds of 44 knots. 300hp and 370 hp engines are also on offer for captains who want more of a Goldilocks pace – not too slow, not too fast!
