The Carver 444 is a 46-foot luxury flybridge yacht produced by prestigious Wisconsin-based yacht-building firm Carver Yachts between 2004 and 2014. This vessel’s vintage style combines sharp curves and tear-drop glazing with plenty of robust right-angles for a uniquely idiosyncratic aura, while innovative layouts and staggered decking emphasize space and ceiling height throughout. A rugged fiberglass hull, a hand-crafted finish and still-swift engines make the 444 a much-prized watercraft on the used and charter markets to this day.
The teak-lined flybridge remains entirely open to the elements for a sun-kissed vibe, though a wrap-around all-weather cover can be installed in mere minutes for shelter from the rain. Up here there is an L-shaped white leather sofa with cushioned backrests facing a wet-bar console with chilled storage, a sink and an optional grill, while up front two pedestal seats face a modern elevated helm station. Boasting a non-glare, bronzed finish, this helm features a power-assisted tilting steering wheel, Simrad autopilot, optional thruster controls, Raymarine or Garmin display screens, a Raytheon fish-finder, a mounted compass, hydraulic trim-tab switches and hand-held VHF.
Out on the foredeck there is a double-width sunpad surrounded by high guardrails in stainless steel, while broad side-decks lead all the way back to an adaptable cockpit. In this capacious space you will discover room for a table and chairs, though some owners choose to equip this area with a fighting chair, fish boxes, rod-holders and a host of other fishing amenities. A transom gate leads out to a full-beam bathing platform with a swim ladder, perfect for enjoying salt-water swims with the kids.
The main-deck salon impresses with cathedral-like dimensions including a slightly sunken floor, vast head clearance, two-tiers of side glazing, dramatic atrium windows, high-gloss cherrywood surrounds and plenty of room to relax. Two sprawling leather sofas are joined by a dining booth with a timber table, while an open galley is located forward. In here you can expect a Sharp microwave combination oven, a 3-zone hob, Norcold refrigeration, granite-effect Karadon work surfaces and an in-built coffee maker to give this kitchen a home-from-home feel.
Instead of a single-lower deck Carver have gone for two entirely private staterooms on the lower-level, with one located to the bow and another pushed to aft. Each stateroom boasts oval portholes, plush carpeting, queen-sized beds, bedside cabinets, cedar-lined full-height lockers and en-suites with shower cubicles and molded sinks.
Powered by twin 370HP Cummins 5.9 diesel engines as standard, you can expect top speeds to max out at around 26 knots and cruising speeds to settle in at around 21 knots. Some 444 editions can also feature a pair of Volvo Penta TAMD 63P diesels for similar speeds, while a fuel tank holding 404 gallons will keep you out on the water for days before requiring a refuel, with a cruising range of up to 300 nautical miles.
