The Bertram 61 Convertible is a 61-foot sportfishing yacht that was launched by the Florida-based boat-building company Bertram Yachts in 2018. A deadly fishing machine with tournament aspirations, this ultra-sleek and super-quick vessel boasts an 88-square foot cockpit fine-tuned around the catching experience and a Michael Peters hull designed for the rugged offshore. Yet as a convertible yacht this is a craft that also features a luxurious, perhaps even opulent, set of comfortable living spaces for the whole family.
Though ready to be fitted with a bespoke tuna tower you can simply head up to the elevated flybridge for commanding views out to sea. Up here there is a Palm Beach-style helm station with two Murray helm-chairs, a glossy teak helm pod, power-steering, an OctoPlex monitor, Caterpillar engine feedback, two Garmin touchscreens, Humphree trim-tab switches, single-lever controls, bow thruster buttons, a hand-held VHF radio and a high-speed mounted compass. Yet there is also room for a plush upper-lounge with a drinks chiller, U-shaped wrap-around seating and a twin-seat, all finished in padded, marine-grade upholstery.
Heading down into the vast, teak-lined aft-cockpit you can expect to find flush rod-holders, a self-draining sole, a huge 30-gallon transom baitwell with an aquarium wall, Pipewelders outriggers, a transom lift-gate, wash-down hoses, tackle storage, two in-sole fish boxes, rocket launchers and a Release Marine fighting chair or Battle Saddle. There’s also a leather-lined mezzanine sofa back here along with a wet-bar that combines chilled storage with an outdoor Kenyon grill, a set of integrated speakers and LED night-lighting.
Head indoors and discover a salon lined in satin-finished teak with a pale ash sole, climate-control, mood lighting, 360-degree mullioned glazing and a lavish array of seating options. Expect to find a pair of U-shaped leather sofas here, one that surrounds a coffee table and another that can be used for formal dining. Across from this is a walk-in galley with bar stools, Silestone countertops and all of the kitchen amenities needed to keep you fed on gourmet meals during long-haul trips. Belowdecks you will encounter a sedate rest area for up to six overnight guests across a trio of en-suite staterooms. A queen-sized bed sits in the stateroom to the bow, while a twin room separates this from a double stateroom to aft with a walk-in closet, bedside cabinets and room to breathe. All cabins come with expansive bathroom facilities with ceramic sinks and showers, with the aft stateroom boasting bench seating underneath a waterfall shower. Choose between Atlantic or Pacific design treatments, with the former boasting crème upholstery and carpeting, and the latter featuring naval blue upholstery and a teak and maple sole.
The composite deep-V hull has been reinforced with Kevlar for a durable presence, while it also boasts a flared bow entry and an 18-degree transom deadrise precision engineered for oceanic swells. A Seakeeper 16 stabilizer is on hand for roll reduction at zero-speed. Powered by a pair of 1900HP Caterpillar C32 Acert diesel engines, you can expect top speeds to outpace a marlin at 44 knots, while a swift cruising speed of 34 knots feels as smooth as silk. With a 1,720 gallon fuel tank on board, you will have more than enough to keep you out on the water all week searching for that record catch or simply taking it easy.
