The Back Cove 41 is a 46-foot Downeast-style cruiser launched by beloved Maine yacht-building company Back Cove in 2015. The largest model in the Back Cove fleet, the 41 boasts lavish indoor and outdoor lounge space with a timeless, Herreshoff-style flair, plenty of overnight cabin room for a pair of couples and a 21st century approach to taking things easy and enjoying life at sea. A classic form inspired by the Maine lobster boat tradition, handsome lines and only the very finest materials make this one of the most stylish vessels in its class, while powerful propulsion options and a rugged category-B planing hull promise a smooth and steady ride. Back Cove have sold well over 100 of these models since the initial launch, making this one of their best-selling boats.
Wrap-around side decks reach all the way to the bow, where high guardrails enhance the feeling of security. Follow the teak brightwork all the way to the spacious and self-draining aft-cockpit to discover a pair of sedate L-shaped transom sofas, an aft-facing mezzanine seat and a transom door out to a full-beam bathing platform with a shower. A glazed, slide-open door leads into a salon with plenty of old-world charm, wrap-around glazing and an arched roof, with surrounds in American cherry and a sole in striped faux-teak. To port there is an open galley with striking white countertops, a two-zone hob, a microwave oven, a hidden steel sink and a slide-out refrigeration. To starboard meanwhile there is a U-shaped dining sofa in sophisticated Ultraleather that wraps around a bespoke maple dining table, while further companion seating is located to port. A pair of raised Stidd helm seats face a timber-lined helm station with a pair of Simrad MFD screens, a VesselView 7 system, Side Power thruster controls, autopilot, a mounted compass, hand-held VHF radio, trim-tab switches and a Seastar hydraulic steering wheel.
Down on the elegant lower-deck there is a cozy double cabin amidship with a bedside cabinet and a breezy day-head to starboard. Up front there is a larger double stateroom with a queen-sized bed, cedar-lined closets and a pair of chunky skylights, with rooms down here also benefitting from a number of oval portholes. A capacious starboard bathroom, meanwhile, offers guests the opportunity to freshen up in a dedicated wet-room shower cubicle with a bench seat.
The Back Cove 41 comes fitted with a single 600mHP Cummins QSC 8.3 inboard as standard, through you can upgrade to a 715mHP Cummins QSM 11 or a sole 725mHP Volvo Penta D11 for a bit of extra power. Stick with standard propulsion to enjoy top speeds of over 26 knots, or switch to the Volvo for top speeds just shy of 30 knots and a range of 484 nautical miles at a silky smooth 15.5 knot cruising speed. Whatever option you choose, this yacht’s 400 gallon fuel tank and resin-infused fiberglass hull promise speed, stamina and efficiency as you explore the New England coast or make a break into the Gulf of Mexico.
